So the Tea Party is using the "I have black friends, I'm not a racist" defense. I'm not buying it.

So the Tea Party is using the "I have black friends, I'm not a racist" defense. I'm not buying it.
Every single Tea Party rally I've seen has been not just predominantly, but overwhelmingly white - almost to the point of exclusivity. Seems to me that whatever few black members they have are herded onto stage as if to say "look-ee here, we got us one of them African-Americans of our own, see we're not racist like you say we are". Meanwhile, a good portion of the crowd carries around signs displaying varying degrees of racism. They shout racial epithets at members of Congress. They openly talk about their desire for armed, violent revolution to wrest control from "socialist" Obama.

I don't buy their claims that they're not racist for one single minute. They claim that they were just as angry when Bush was in office, giving billions to the banks. Bull-fucking-shit they were. If they were, they sure as hell weren't out in the streets over it. Hell, they didn't even get this angry when Bill Clinton was in office. Sure, they talked a good deal, they helped propel Rush Limbaugh's ratings, but you never saw a nationwide organized movement like you do nowadays. But let a black president take office, and they come crawling out of the woodwork, slithering out from under their stones.

Their racism denials seem about as credible as when some racist asshole says "I'm not racist, I have a black friend".

2. I'm not buying it cause I've heard it before
Years ago I worked with a racist who used the N word to describe African American co-workers behind their backs. And to their faces, she was their best friend. Fortunately most of them didn't buy her bullshit.

But I'll never forget this woman and think of her every time I hear about closet racists.

You can deflate that argument pretty quick easily..."That's great! When was the last time you had your "black friend" over to your house for dinner?"

or

"Oh so you take turns watching each other's kids on "date nights?"

"What kind of movies do you most like?"

"What's your favorite place to hang out/sport to play together?"

"Gee...it really sounds like you and this "friend" don't do ANY of the things you'd expect "friends" to do."

"Is this really a "friend" or just a person you nod at every now and then?"

4. Like watching the Republican National Convention and they show the same 4 African Americans
over and over. It became a running joke in my house every four years.

5. They are rather quick to rattle off their names, aren't they?
Let's see...there's Colin Powell, Condaleeza Rice, Alan Keyes, JC Watts...am I missing anyone? Oh yeah, that black Tea Party guy who dresses like a cowboy and sings country music that they love to parade around...

Yep, it is a joke.
