I'm discouraged here in Michigan re: our next Governor's race.
We've had a Democrat in power for a while - Jennifer Granholm. By "power" I mean she's had to deal with Republican majority situation in our State Senate, and a complete mess left from the idiot policies of the previous office holder/leftover Junior problems. Our state, which has a heavy reliance on automotive, has a ridiculoisly high unemployment rate, and companies have been gleefully taking advantage of folks, with low wages for high quality, experienced workers.

One of the Republicans running for Governor put out his ad recently: less regulation to create more jobs. My head hurts with the stupid - black is white, after all! He mouthed some more absolute freaking nonsense claims, with no real answers to anything (while ignoring the progress that has been made), and looks to be a complete idiot.

He'll probably win because folks here are beyond frustrated, and "throw the bums out" seems to be the order of the day. My perception is that while Republicans are Corrupt and Awful, Democrats are Incompetent and Politically Fumbling. Even on issues they win, they somehow seem able to lose...Government regulation - what part of a freaking GULF OIL DISASTER, all over the news, has this guy missed??? And why does he fell completely confident in his "message" ---

Ah, that's right. Because instead of becoming a national joke about Denial, the guy is most likely going to become the next Governor of Michigan.

1. Virg Bernero is my man
I hope that the "less taxes, less regulation" dipshit loses big time.

2. Guess This Country Hasn't Learned...
We live in a "what have you done for me lately" society. Since ths administration has tried to "accomodate" it's ended up in the proverbial middle of the road where the roadkill lives. It's mismangement of the PR battles over healthcare and now the banksters along with a corporate media hellbent on showing this President "who is boss" has allowed the GOOP to re-emerge, despite how off the political abyss it's gone; escaping any blame for creating the messes this administration and many states face and now ready to cash in. It's sickening.

Many state budgets were ruined by the booosh tax cuts. By cutting taxes on the federal level it led to less taxes being collected by the states that took surpluses in many states and turned them into defecits. Add to that the unfunded mandates...most of them with boooshie's slimy fingerprints all over them and states problems became worse. Then add to that the collapse of the economy that happened as the rushpublicans were hitting the exits and left all the messes for this administration to deal with. But in this short term society, trying to blame the past regime is now sounding very lame and its not selling. Sadly we could see a GOOP wave...not of moderates but of teabaggers and other ideologues and opportunists who always tend to rise during tough times and make problems even worse.

Cheers...

3. MI's AG Cox preparing for GOP primary by filing brief in support of AZ immigration law
Edited on Tue Jul-13-10 07:34 AM by Bozita
I'm surprised that none of the GOPers running for governor are advocating a fence down the center of Lakes Superior, Huron, St. Clair, Erie, and Ontario.

They must have a lot of free time in Mike Cox's office.

Cox's brief to support Arizona immigration law
BY KATHY BARKS HOFFMAN
ASSOCIATED PRESS

LANSING — Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox plans to file a legal brief supporting Arizona’s immigration law and sent a letter today asking other state attorneys general to join him.

Cox, one of five Republicans running for Michigan governor, said in the letter that the U.S. Justice Department’s legal challenge to the Arizona law “seeks to remove the power of the states” to enforce their own immigration statutes along with federal immigration laws.

He also argues that under the federal government’s approach, “there is no cooperative effort on immigration but only a one-way street where states lose control over their borders and are left to guess at the reality of the law.”

He’s asking for replies by Tuesday afternoon.

The Arizona law, set to take effect July 29, would require state and local police to question and possibly arrest illegal immigrants during the enforcement of other laws such as traffic stops.

6. Stupid is as stupid does..
What more can one say. All of America has had a solid decade of Republican rule to learn how they operate. They brought America to it's knees and now intend to finish the job. Apparently much of America wants them to do just that..It just doesn't get any more stupid than that..
