Former Diebold Sales Rep Becomes Registrar of Voters in San Diego
Former Diebold Sales Rep Becomes Registrar of Voters in San Diego

Diebold Deborah Seiler, a former sales representative for Diebold Election Systems, has been made the new registrar of voters for San Diego County in California. Diebold makes the voting machines used in San Diego. I previously wrote about Seiler's prior appointment as registrar of Solano County in 2004 -- a one-time Diebold county. From that story:

As the Diebold sales rep, Seiler sold Solano County nearly 1,200 touch-screen machines that were not federally tested or state certified. When the state banned the machines because of Diebold's business practices, the county had to find a replacement for the machines and pay Diebold more than $400,000 to get out of its contract.

Joining Seiler in the San Diego elections office is another election official beleaguered by controversy -- Michael Vu. Until recently, Vu was the elections director in Cuyahoga County in Ohio. He resigned in the wake of a number of critical reports depicting problems with how his office conducted elections and how machines made by Diebold performed. His resignation also followed the conviction of two election workers in his office who were found guilty of rigging a recount in the 2004 presidential election. Vu was recently made assistant registrar of voters in San Diego.

The announcement was made today by San Diego's interim registrar, Mischelle Townsend. Townsend was previously the registrar of voters in Riverside County but left that office under the cloud of a financial conflict-of-interest controversy involving Sequoia Voting Systems -- the company that made the machines used in Riverside. Townsend has been acting as registrar of voters in San Diego until the county could find a permanent registrar.

Seiler will start her new job on June 4th.

1. These people are like cockroaches. They just never stop, do they?
Why the hell ANYONE would give any of them any sort

After all the CRAP they've already been involved with?

9. I wondered why he ran for a 2nd term.
I had the feeling he didn't enjoy scrapping with the CA legislature. After all his initiatives were voted down in 2005, I thought he go back to making movies. Maybe this is why he decided to run again.

He'll probably try to steal California, but I'd be more worried if Debra Bowen had not replaced Arnold appointee and Diebold shill Bruce MacPherson as SoS.

5. We need to make priority 1 here to ATTACK the Board of Supervisors here now!!
Edited on Sat May-12-07 08:49 AM by calipendence
THEY have been quietly to blame for a lot of the problems around here!

Sally McPherson (any relation Bruce?!!) was the Registrar of Voters before the infamous Mikel Haas and was the one that helped the recount "not count" many of the votes that Donna Frye could have used to become mayor when she was a write-in candidate. Black Box Voting had already documented problems with evoting machine custody in her days too here in San Diego!

And then the infamous Mikel Haas with his atrotious way of managing the special election to replace Cunningham, with his continuing the "sleepover" policy of custody of voting machines, the NOT counting in initial counts of paper ballots that Bruce McPherson had mandated be included in the election in his lame attempt to try to fend off Debra Bowen, and his throwing out impossible prices to do recounts of these elections too.

The Board of Supervisors hired these nimrods! THEY should be made to pay!

The Board of Supervisors has been ALL Republican for 10 years here. AND it shows! Just this last election (right before the California primaries in 2006), there WAS a threat to get a Democrat in a mostly registered Democratic district to Ron Roberts slot on the Board of Supervisors (he's the chair and of course was the "third man" in that mayoral election where Donna Frye got screwed in her write-in campaign). Ron Roberts had a lot of name recognition from that election and a lot of other places, but not all San Diegans knew him as a Republican. Enter Richard Barrera, who many of us met down here on a number of occasions and a lot us were excited about him being able to beat Roberts in this district. He wasn't that well known yet though. Last minute "Democratic Endorsement" mail flyer (which of course was one of those typical fraudulent mailers being sent out), masqueraded Roberts as the "Democrat's choice" for City Council on a flyer with every other Democratic candidate selected except Richard Barrera. Roberts got over 50% of the vote and then prevented the runoff in November, which I suspect would be a lot more contentious had Barrera been able to make Mikel Haas's subequent failures more of Ron Robert's responsibility in a runoff! This is typical on how the Board of Supervisors keeps power here! Strike up another for the bad guys!

And recently it has been the Board of Supervisors who has been trying to help Blackwater fast track getting 800+ acres of prime real estate in Potrero Hills area against sizable numbers of residents' wishes there for their "training facility".

Now these brazen moves to promoting Mikel Haas and hiring Michaael Vu and now Deborah Seller! We need to start calling these people out! We need to make it a mission to get a Democrat on this board and start exposing all of this crap that's going on behind the scenes. Another person that might be able to help us I think would be Debra Bowen. We should ask for her assistance in eyeballing the details of what is going on here, to make sure that any move towards wrongdoing gets stopped and publicly rip the Board of Supervisors' for culpability they have in enabling such things happening!

It's time to declare war folks! We here in San Diego need to take on these people NOW!

14. Here's one! Go after Pam Slater-Price in 2008! Start finding dirt on her now!
Edited on Sat May-12-07 02:30 PM by calipendence
We should probably look into the background of each of these bums, but for starters let's go after this one in 2008! She's in an area that has the coastal cities in it, Del Mar, Encinitas, Solana Beach, but also Escondido, La Jolla, Rancho Bernardo, and Ranch Penasquitos, which means it likely also contains heavily conservative Rancho Santa Fe in the middle there. We should check the voter registrations in this area snd see how vulnerable she is. We need to get someone right now to run against her that has a shot at winning, and also that can build up name recognition NOW, so that they can't slime that person again like they did to Barrerra earlier.

Here's an article here that notes that she wrote a column defending the board's refusing medical cannabis ID Cards and the Board's siding against medicinal use of Marijuana.

http://www.drugsense.org/dsw/2005/ds05.n430.html

Other Board of Supervisors' names for us to try and dig up dirt on are:

1) Ron Roberts
2) Greg Cox
3) Dianne Jacob
4) Bill Horn

Thomas J. Patuszka (Clerk)

These guys are also using our taxpayers' dime to take trips to China and Europe to "conduct trade and fact-finding missions". Yeah RIGHT!

http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2006/09/29/opinion/lett...

We should also go after County Chief Administrative Officer Walt Ekard too.

http://www.co.san-diego.ca.us/cao/caoekard.html

Note in this write-up that he was formerly BRIAN BILBRAY'S Chief of Staff! Talk about conflict of interest there in last years' special election!

This guy looks to be at the nexus of the problems with Mikel Haas, Michael Vu and now this hire as well from his comments to Barbara Jacobsen earlier questioning the hiring of Michael Vu. I think this NC Times articles needs some more written responses from people "with a clue" instead of those that look like "paid contributors" from Diebold here or the like.

http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2007/04/18/news/sandieg...

Also note that Ekard is now proposing that we "outsource" local computer systems to a couple of private firms, Computer Sciences Corp, and SAIC. Need to study this more, but part of me wonders if it is more than just trying to upgrade computer systems and is a way to remove or lessen our ability to audit the machines, much like the trouble we are in in Washington with a lot of emails "disappearing" for a long period of time too.

Here's another article that talks about Ekard got his job earlier...
