Spend Our Money....on like-minded people
I had an idea the other day, after spending $500 for car repairs at a garage that had Fox News blaring and a McCain/Palin bumper sticker on the owner's car. I thought, "Wouldn't it be nice if I could spend my hard earned dollars at a garage owned by someone with like-minded political views, rather than a conservative republican".

I'm not sure if DU is the place for it, but it would be great to have a list of honest, democratically owned businesses that we could contact, and possibly do business with.

It sure would beat spending money at a teabagger owned business.

1. There is a similar thing for the rnc in nc.
I heard a commercial on conservative radio as I drove through Greensboro for a list of conservative business owners and I thought to myself: "Self... that's a good idea for liberal businesses." The profits from the coupon book sales (that's what the commercial was for) went to local conservative candidates. Pretty good idea.

2. why not
The conservative churches encourage that all the time. What's good for the goose should work for the gander.

3. Small business people with half a brain don't disclose their politics.
Having said that ...

4. quite a few do where I live
Ben and Jerry weren't exactly shy about their politics. Lots of small businesses in Vermont tout their liberal creds.

5. and several here in Boehner country tout their conservative creds.
which doesn't leave me with many options - seeing as the only other liberal business owner I know is the local undertaker.

6. After I paid $500 to get my car fixed...
the mechanic and owner started spouting off about how honest and tell it like it us Fox News is...I left before they got past discussing immigrants stealing all our jobs. That's when I thought it might be worthwhile investigating getting a liberal version of Angies List.

7. What is unbelievably worse is having an ultra-conservative dentist!
I can't say a word because my mouth is full of gauze, etc. He is spouting off some rather racist crap about Obama while the conservative talk show radio is on full blast in the background.

I'm not sure if it was started by a DUer or not, but it was all over the boards here after Nov. 2004, when we were all feeling powerless and frustrated by the conservative PTB. Sadly, it is now defunct. It was SUCH a great resource while it lasted!

Around the same time, the Economic Activism and Progressive Living Group got started here (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=255)...it now sees almost no traffic.
