Obama does a goody
I am a pretty vocal critic of president Obama, I feel like he has squandered an opportunity that appears in the presidency only once in a generation or more.

That said, he has done something good. First, he used a recess appointment to circumvent the assholery of the Republicans. That, in and of itself, is a step in the right direction from a president who has gone way to far in trying to appease the opposition.

Second, he used that appointment to install a man with truly extraordinary achievements to his credit, Donald Berwick to the post of Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

This is good, very good.

2. Michael Savage's head was exploding over this appointment, so I'm pleased.
Seems like a lot of things the president does has that effect on him.

3. The health care professionals I know are kind of apolitical, because they care about one thing and
one thing only: Health Care.

4. The Repugs absolutely do not want qualified people in these
positions. The want to destroy the government and they are not hiding it.

6. I love to see the far right heads explode ... but ...
When Obama ran, he did not run on making their heads explode.

When Bush was President, I was angry that he was CLEARLY not interested in being the President of ALL of America.

Obama, to his credit, has tried to be the President of all America ... and it drives many of us on the left CRAZY.

We know that no one in the GOP would do the same ... love thy neighbor ... turn the other check, love your enemy ... no way would the GOP ever, ever, do anything but kick us in the face.

While it makes us nuts ... Obama has tried to not do what we know they would do.

Do we hate him for that, or respect him for trying to act in a way we wish THEY would act.

Not sure.

7. A section of Dems or Dem leaning voters wanted Obama to act like a Democratic Bush and are pissed at
him for not doing that. Of course, anyone paying attention to the election or to Obama himself would have known that he was never going to do that - but they still hate on him about it all the time.

9. Agree ...
On one level I want him to do that too ... but that is not how he ran ... he actually ran to be the President of all of America, including the views of those I don't agree with.

I think, after Bush ... and his arrogance ... many of us want Obama to turn the tables ... punch the GOP in the mouth.

Politically, that might be smarter. Not sure.

My hope is that as we enter 2010 elections, he can say "look, I've tried to reach out" ... "the GOP will not work with me, they now vote against policy that they proposed ... and so, I will now not prioritize bipartisan support above anything else.

I actually think he could have said this 4 months ago ... now would be good too.

12. He's Done A Lot More Than That, We've Also Just Found Out He's Been Quietly
banning anti-biotic use in livestock and he's covering all veterans for PTSD, and this is just stuff we've found out about this week. And we have to actually look for these stories since they get little coverage in the Liberal Media.

He's doing a lot of good. Things like this should tell you what you need to know about Obama the man, his motives and where his heart is.
