A story that will make you shake your head
LEAWOOD, Kan. - Leawood Police say that they found a 21-year-old man sexually assaulting a 92-year-old woman in her home just before midnight on Tuesday evening.

Police took a 911 call around 11:55 p.m. where a woman asked for help and then was disconnected. When police arrived at her home in the 10300 block of Overbrook Road two minutes later, they saw the suspect sexually assaulting the woman.

"The officer that went around back looked inside and saw what looked to him a sexual assault in progress," said Lt. Kevin Cauley of the Leawood Police Department.

Police said they forced their way into the home and one officer was attacked by the suspect before he was arrested.

"The officer doesn't see the suspect at the time and gets cold clocked by the suspect," said Cauley, who said that the officer who was assaulted was one of the department's ground fighting instructors. After a brief struggle, the suspect was taken down by that officer and arrested.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was booked into the Johnson County Detention Center pending charges.

"Obviously a 92 year old woman against a 21 year old male, she didn't have a chance," said Cauley. "We don't have any reason to believe that he had been watching her or anything like that. We think it was just a random crime and he happened to knock on the door of a 92 year old woman's house."

The 92-year-old woman was taken to the hospital to be treated. Neighbors say that the woman is legally blind, and lives alone. They say they were surprised to learn the woman had opened her door so late at night but say she might have been disoriented from being woken up from the door bell.

1. Everybody is losing their damn minds. I bought a little spy camera
from Heartland for $39 just so I would know there were Mormons at my door, but now I don't open the door for ANYONE who I see on that little precious thing if I don't know them and sometimes even if I do know them. One of the best little gadgets I ever bought.

6. This is nothing new.
I remember in the 1950s a kid from my Catholic parish was arrested for assaulting an elderly parish member in her home. When did we ever leave primitive times?

9. Yeah, that is true. Probably what happens now is we hear of them more with
so much better/quicker communications instantly across the globe. Technology advanced, but not people.

3. "Cold Clocked"???
The victory of euphemism over honesty as a bow to supposed propriety...either you understand the original reference or stand non-plussed by the text.

8. I work with a family member of this woman
They are just beside themselves. They don't know if she will survive.

10. Good lord, this is so very sad to hear. One would think at some point the
elderly would not be a sexual assault target such as this. This is so very sick. The person that did this surely has some pretty heavy problems. I hope she survives OK.

5. Some people just need a good killin'.
This piece of human excrement is an ideal candidate for it.

7. I hate to agree with that
But I can't think of a good reason to disagree.
