| Hitchens To Undergo Chemo For Esophagus |
|
Looks like the smoking has caught up with him:
"I have been advised by my physician that I must undergo a course of chemotherapy on my esophagus. This advice seems persuasive to me. I regret having had to cancel so many engagements at such short notice."
Saw this over at Pharyngula.

| 2. And believe me chemo is no picnic I had it |
|
At first I thought I wasn't going to have bad effects. I didn't have a bad taste, and some but not all my hair fell out. Then I suddenly couldn't walk over 10 feet at a time. I needed a wheel chair. Then my hair did fall out, but I was lucky underneath there was a fuzz like a buzz cut and it is growing. then I got that taste and I lost 25 pounds because I couldn't taste anything that taste like food EXCEPT - get this- bacon and eggs and coffee. I lived on that for 2 and 1/2 months. Then I took 6 weeks of radiation and all the skin came off from under my arm and across my breast. I was told radiation would be a breeze -- not. I had the last treatment three weeks ago and it is just healing up. I also knew some one who had radiation of the head area, his hair came out and all his skin on the ears and neck peeled off. So this guy is not going to have an easy time.
