Poll question: Evil bastards: Where do they come from?
I keep hearing entire groups being collectively condemned, i.e. the military, cops and corporate CEOs.

Certainly there are plenty of bad actors but are they all bad? If so, what makes them bad?

4. No, the answer is any state beginning with the letter 'M'
for "mean" and maybe even "moronic". So there! :P

7. And I live in Texas.
Though we politically produced GWB, we also produced Bill Moyers, Molly Ivins, and Barbara Jordan :)

15. I know, and I thought about Molly Ivins!
I was just making a joke, because the choices weren't what I expected.

16. Okay, I didn't 'see' the joke,
probably because I still see so many around here that want to blame Texas for, well, everything bad in the country. I tried to temper my reply to the silly side because I wasn't in the mood to get into a fight over region-bashing, whether it really existed as such or not.

Thanks for explaining things :)

17. Eh, people make many, many jokes about Detroit
There was someone here a few years ago who thought it was very, very funny to call it DetRIOT. Over and over and over.

18. I know what you mean, and I usually ignore what I can tell are jokes.
Like I said, I missed the joke part, but I don't always get them, either ;)

What I "react" to are the ones that are obviously not joking and still can't see anything good coming out of my state, no matter what evidence is given. Just watch what happens the next time Gov. Goodhair opens his yap and says something typically stupid and detrimental to anyone but republicans...

19. And sports teams. Fans from Chicago and Pittsburgh
were actually making jokes in the playoffs last year about jobs. "No homes, no jobs, no cars, no Cup!"

Har har har.

I've been to Texas, and my main beef was that when I ordered a medium popcorn at the movies, they gave me an extra large! Which would have been a problem, except that when I went to my seat, it was also very enormous! And it reclined!

20. Yes, we do have many 'large' people here, myself included
;) And I do love the larger movie-theater seats, too :)

Honestly, I really don't know much about Detroit other than what's shown in movies and on the news. Beyond that, I can't even visualize your town. I have no idea what the skyline looks like or the surrounding countryside. I only know I likely wouldn't last a single winter there. I love my year-long summer with the mild 'winter' break :D

11. evil by nature/innocent are corrupted
corrupt people seek power and power corrupts. The old boy network (bonding, looking our for "our own" corrupts. And the culture of certain institutions leads people to do things or accept things they would never normally do. Abu Ghraib is a classic example of that.

12. You see, what happens is someone tempts someone else with the offer of bacon pie.
And then there is no bacon pie, not even a lousy picture. And the someone else gets enraged, one thing leads to another, and viola! another evil bastard is born.

14. OK, I don't want to sound as if I'm grousing but...
...why would someone unrec a poll?

I don't need it to be rec'ed and I'm not asking people to give my thread a rec. I just noticed at one point it was +1 but now it is at 0 and I can't understand why an honest question should gain an unrec.

26. don't worry about it.
every single thread is unrecc'd by someone when it's posted, could be a random target, could be someone unreccing everything on the page as a protest against the unrec system. It's not necessarily related to content at all, you just have to assume you will get at least one of those when you post and not take it personally.
