Animal activists whale film called a "scam"

Animal activists challenged on whale film 'scam'
By Richard Black
Environment correspondent, BBC News, Agadir

Norwegian animal welfare organizations have been accused of misleading the public over the "cruelty" of whaling. Activists recently released a video that they said showed a harpooned whale possibly taking two hours to die.

At the International Whaling Commission (IWC) meeting, the Norwegian delegation said the footage had been packaged in a way as to "misrepresent the facts." The campaigners, who rejected the allegations, say they were considering their options on how to respond.

The film was shot in May in the Lofoten Islands off the northwestern coast of Norway, the heart of the nation's whaling industry.

1. But of course killing an animal is okay, and this is "painless."
Tell ya what - let's get some of the manufacturers of these humane devices to stand there while I fire away at them.

You know what? THAT would be the humane thing to do.

Yep.

2. I don't think it's a scam... I think they were trying to save money on "explosive harpoons"

4. Looked like that harpoon was pretty close to the whale.
And it probably was injured. But even if it was not the same whale, and that whale was not injured the first time, I don't see the scam. They did not say they knew it was the same whale, they did say that it was possible that it was the same whale. So, where is the scam. I guess the scam is that they should not be filming whale hunting at all---what are they thinking. I am sure it didn't hurt "too much" to be harpooned with an explosive harpoon.
