2. He's certainly an odd duck, isn't he?
Maybe unstable weirdos are great commanders, but he pushes even that envelope.

He just never managed to "get" that he was subordinate to a civilian government.

You dis the boss anywhere, you're usually out on your bum.

8. Realize he came from the Special Forces community
this is essentially a job requirement, the weird part that is. In my job in EMS I knew a few Special Forces types, since we worked with the Army...

And that is why MOST special forces officers never go beyond Colonel, and those who make it to General, two star is the ceiling. I suspect this is the last operator to get four stars and this kind of a command for this generation. And for the record, the firing is about the dissing, not the policy. They agree.

3. He also only sleeps four hours a night and does
some physical exercise routine that exceeds what most people do. I might bet that the lack of sleep has contributed to his lapses of judgement especially at his age. I know if I don't get my eight hours at my age, I do some really dumb things on the job.

9. Humanly impossible without medication.
Sleep Deprivation Takes a Toll: Only 4-6 Hours Is Not Enough

Sleeping only four to six hours each night can have a serious effect upon your ability to think and act properly. You may not even be aware of how tired you are, thinking that there is nothing wrong.

some folks truly don't need more than 4-6 hours of sleep a night. Most do, some don't.

Outliers always exist. I haven't slept over six hours a night in my entire memory, even as a very young child.

12. Some folks, see for example Ben Franklin and Einstein,
function with a lot less sleep than most humans, and the Fitness... he is an operator first and foremost.

By the way many people in the military have their circadian cycles ruined since the military actually requires people to sleep a lot less than healthy. Yes, the VA considers it a disability due to service.

5. He almost would remind one of an extreme religious fundamentalist who

sacrifices for his church and yet beats his wife and children.

He sounds very strange. Ascetic...deprivation and maybe he even flogs himself in retribution for what must be eating at his soul.

I know...I'm OTT here...but the guy sounds weird.

-----

Asceticism (from the Greek: ἄσκησις, áskēsis, "exercise" or "training" in the sense of athletic training) describes a lifestyle characterized by abstinence from various sorts of worldly pleasures often with the aim of pursuing religious and spiritual goals. Some forms of Christianity (see especially: Monastic life) and the Indian religions (including yoga) teach that salvation and liberation involve a process of mind-body transformation effected by exercising restraint with respect to actions of body, speech, and mind. The founders and earliest practitioners of these religions (e.g. Buddhism, Jainism, the Christian desert fathers) lived extremely austere lifestyles refraining from sensual pleasures and the accumulation of material wealth. This is to be understood not as an eschewal of the enjoyment of life but a recognition that spiritual and religious goals are impeded by such indulgence.

Asceticism is closely related to the Christian concept of chastity and might be said to be the technical implementation of the abstract vows of renunciation. Those who practice ascetic lifestyles do not consider their practices virtuous in themselves but pursue such a lifestyle in order to encourage, or 'prepare the ground' for, mind-body transformation.

In the popular imagination, asceticism may be considered obsessive or even masochistic in nature. However, the askēsis enjoined by religion functions in order to bring about greater freedom in various areas of one's life (such as freedom from compulsions and temptations) and greater peacefulness of mind (with a concomitant increase in clarity and power of thought).

6. Spec Ops that is normal
they usually have ONE meal, and a bunch of what are called warrior meals. They are so-small that most people would not call them a meal.

For the record when I worked in EMS, during disasters, that's what we did... a byte here, two there... kept us going.

He's not a traitor.

Talking like this is reminiscent of the Bush years, when the Republicans would accuse the Democrats of the same damn thing for doing the same thing like McChrystal did.

problems for good order and discipline, and the rest of the laundry list are NOT treason.

Damn there are days...

by the way he is getting relieved for the right reasons, civilian control, but he did not commit treason... in the US Code it is VERY HARD to do that, and this is a good thing.
