WASHINGTON, June 22 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama was angry about critical comments made by General Stanley McChrystal in a magazine report, and all options are on the table about the general's job, the White House said on Tuesday.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, asked if McChrystal's job was safe, said there would be more to say after Obama met with the general in Washington on Wednesday.

How can you continue to leave someone in charge who "commands" so little judgment and respect for you?

5. If he gets fired he will be picked up by Faux
News the next day and get a pay raise and his military pension. He would benefit from getting caned, maybe he wants to.

19. "Caned" or "canned"? Either way it works for me.
Both would work best... matter of fact.

Simultaenously.

2. I think it's important for the President to talk to McChrystal before acting
after all it's not all that uncommon for journalist to slant or distort a story. So I am glad to hear the White House is not declaring anything until the General has a chance to speak in his own defense.

17. Tradition
There is a tradition that at that level, the guy that's going to fire you do it to your face. I actually suspect he is not going to get fired. Gates or the Chairman would do that. Obama might relieve him of his command, but even typically that would be done by Gates. The president may explain how he has "lost confidence" in him, with Gates standing there. Gates will then act accordingly.

9. All of the Bush people really should just go.
Some of them may need a little help going, but the Bush years were very dark ones for this country, and anyone Bush found suitable for a position probably isn't a good choice to leave in that position.

10. Trust me. Regardless of what freedoms we enjoy as citizens,
what that General did was insubordination because the military never responds in that matter. It was public and it was beyond stupid.

I don't know how we do it, but we have to make the military more amenable for people who aren't obsessive republicans. The kind that put party before country are going to put us all at risk.

Obama could make some serious inroads if he begins with the Air Force.

11. It's unfortunate McChrystal's conduct didn't make them angrier beforehand

This should have made the White House angrier long before
“We have shot an amazing number of people, but to my knowledge, none has ever proven to be a threat,” - Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal

This general should have been removed long ago for war crimes.

12. It's time to start retiring all the Rumsfeld/Bush sycophants in the
Pentagon. Among the field commanders on the ground today, I'm certain there are better choices that can be promoted, and who have first hand experience of the wars. Obama could pick them for their competence, not their politics and religion as was suggested by another DUer on another thread. btw, I think it's time for Robert Gates to go too.

24. for all you guys that were in the military,
you know we were always told to keep our mouths shut about politics while in uniform. What we did out of them was another story. This general is always in uniform, it's probably tattooed on his body or at least in his mind.

He should be given an undesireable discharge, sent to gitmo for the next 6 months and have all pay and allowances returned to the finance department.:+

well, it's a thought>

geez, I'd like to be the morning report clerk that got to do that entry:evilgrin:
