Understanding the Afghanistan minerals news "story"
Brasscheck has posted this video explaining the NY Times non story "story". An effort to build up the Neo Con political heir apparent General Petraeus. Help his future political run.

A good watch:

1. I think they're just trying to tell us that
it's worth the thousand plus lives that have been lost in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan-- graveyard of empires. Take your place America, among the prostrate, desperate and exhausted.

5. Great behind the scenes story about that...
MacArthur further added fuel to his firing (pardon the pun) when the "great stand off" took place.

MacArther had just returned to the US after being out of country for something like 18+ years. the arrogant fool sat on the plane waiting for Truman to come to him.

Truman, being the President at the time, basically told his staff, "MacArthur can go fuck himself, if he thinks I'm going out to meet him". Truman was known for his colorful language.

This was a political play by MacArthur who was trying to position himself for the republican nomination for pres.

When word was sent to MacArthur that Truman wasn't coming out, MacArthur relented because it apparently was becoming unbearable on the plane. (heat, stuffy, etc).

The relenting of MacArthur was seen by the republican establishment as "caving". He didn't get the cold shoulder from the republicans at that point, but they weren't as nearly enamored by MacArthur as they once were. (republicans were still smarting from 1948's election thinking it was stolen).

Thing between Truman and MacArthur spiraled down from there.

4. Isn't it nice to know that the self-styled Newspaper of Record
Can still be played like a fucking Stradivarius by the right manipulators?
