Heaven on Earth -- Marijuana ice cream now available in California
Doesn't get any better than this -- except maybe for marijuana beer, but I digress.

http://www.mydesert.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=20106190313

Sam Anderson's cookie dough ice cream will give you a buzz. Not just a sugar one. Laced with marijuana and packaged under the name Heavenly Nice Ice Cream, the ice-cold treat has just been made available to patients with prescriptions at area medical marijuana dispensaries.

“It's great for pain and nausea,” said Anderson, 21, of Indian Wells. The entrepreneur recently launched the business Vertigo Edibles out of his home. Anderson is an epilepsy patient who has long suffered seizures. Because his medications often cause serious stomach problems and vomiting, he began experimenting with various cannabis- laden ice cream recipes in search of a more soothing alternative.
“I've tested a lot of recipes,” said Anderson, who has lived in the valley nearly a decade.

He said he's created a winning, consistent blend that includes about 18 percent buttermilk fat and is made with controlled dosages.
“This has been a godsend, honestly,” Anderson said of the relief he has from pain to his knotted-up muscles. “It's totally different from smoking marijuana.” Desert Organic Solutions, a north Palm Springs medical marijuana dispensary, began stocking Anderson's ice cream this week, said dispensary president Gary Cherlin.

2. I'm glad it is helping people, but it sounds gritty.
Can't seem to wrap my mind around the texture mixed w/ ice cream.

3. Well, you don't usually put ground up marijuana into things like this
It's a more complicated process, which extracts the active ingredients from the MJ into something like oil or butter. There should be no "grit."

4. The article says they are mixing hashish into it.
It sure does sound yummy. Hope it makes it to a dispensary near me.

9. Yep
It isn't complicated either...

Soak shake & buds in water for a few days, changing water each night (gets rid of chlorophyll and other stuff)

Grind in a blender into smaller particles to increase surface area

Fill up a crock pot with water, and wait until its about at boil

Add high fat butter and pot. Stir every now and then

After 4-8 hours in the crock pot, pour into container with cheesecloth on top. Wrap cheesecloth around shake and squeeze last bit of oil out.

Put in fridge. By morning, put two holes into the butter to the bottom, and drain water into sink.

There you go.

*Careful: Can produce trips lasting over 24 hours if consumed in sufficient quantities

11. Interesting!
My last recollection is in the 80s with weed brownies. We used to dry them out first by cooking the buds in a microwave with a piece of bread to take up the remaining moisture. (we also weren't the smartest tools in the shed).

How far we have come in the recipe department! :toast:

15. THC doesn't like microwaves
If you do the soak method I described to get the nasty tasting stuff out (essentially a water cure), then it will all dry in about 24-48 hours anyway completely. Crockpotting it with a lot of water further helps dissolve the nasty shit (like dissolves like, and water drains right out after separation and fat hardens). Doing all this, my butter still is dark green and a bit veggie tasting. I couldn't imagine not taking a few extra days and having real nasty butter.

21. You are very likely losing large quantities of trichromes by regularly changing the water
That water needs to be getting poured through a bubble hash bag.

You can pour the water through a filter and examine it for trichs...youll be surprised how little you may end up with. Just be gentle. Water doesn't just knock those off too easily at all (pot in nature wouldn't have a whole lot left after the rain). Be brave. And let me tell you, my butter is so potent, I damn well don't need anything extra (just clearing out yesterday's brownie)

I wrap my shake in cheesecloth while soaking it in water so it makes draining easy. I just lift out cheesecloth container gently, drain, fill, put baggy back in gently.

39. The cheesecloth is probably preventing trichrome loss
Using water to knock loose trichromes is the key to making bubble hash.

Drink the water. Make a jug of iced tea out of it and see if anything happens.

10. Wait until marijuana is legalized in California in November
Although I have this sneaking feeling . . . .

WHen Prop 8 passed the state changed the online version of the state constitution within 10 minutes -- even though they knew there were going to be lawsuits challenging the law. When the marijuana prop passes, i'm willing to be they will delay changing the law, claiming that they can't do so until all lawsuits are settled.

I tell them not to worry. They just need creative marketing. Humboldt County buds will be like Napa Valley wines.

14. Marijuana beer is not hard to make
At least not much harder than making regular beer.

Making marijuana ice cream is easy too. All you do is cook the buds in the milk or cream before you make the ice cream.

17. Id imagine the best way is just to add pot tincture to beer
Water cure and dry pot, dry & grind up, and insert into Everclear (or high alcohol % liquor). Shake one a day for a month or so (or do cold extraction). Filter out pot, and you got an alcoholic tincture of THC.

Then crack open your favorite beer and add a shot. See you in the morning.

19. You mix it inside the wort while brewing
That way it is integral to the beer's favor.

It is a little more complicated than just tossing it in, but I'm too unmotivated right now to fully explain the process.

23. To have any effect, it takes quite a bit.
I have researched this

To make one batch of homebrew, you would need at least 2 whole plants minus stems.
