There have been many who said the iraq invasion was over oil. America needs oil to survive as it cannot produce enough of its own domestically, and so, the theory goes, that Bush invaded Iraq to gain control over its oil fields.
Well....yes, and no. I think that Bush invaded Iraq to create instability to drive up the cost of oil. The more instability we have, means higher gas prices at the pump. So, it doesn't really matter who actually controls the oil......just as long as it stays out of the pipelines. Either way, the oil barons profit.....and profit they have.
If they get their way, and the iraqi's sign over their oil rights to foreign companies to develop their oilfields.....then they win. And if the iraqi's do not sign over their oil rights, and the nation is fragmented, broken and under a longstanding civil war.....the oil barons still win because that would mean that there is less product on the market......and the prices go up....and they win again.
Makes me think with a certain degree of admiration - the tact that Al Gore has taken over global warming. Global warming is real and is a direct and imminent threat of humanity. But more than that, for if we, as consumers, can get over our oil addiction.....then this would directly impact the buddies of Bush....right in the sweet spot....their wallets.
I am just an average joe, trying to make a living and a life for my family. But this is the way that I see it. The monkey on your backs is the addiction to oil. The robbers are using your youths blood to fatten their wallets, and we have become complient to the conveniences of oil energy, and have lost our independance as a result.
So, if you ask this average joe when the war will end....I would tell you that when every American household is energy efficient, independant, solar, geothermal, windpower--then we are winning the real battle. And when the auto-industry gets their head out of their oilsoaked a$$es and comes up with an alternative to gaspowered vehicles.....then the battle is over and the war will end. Only then.
