Democrats continue hammering GOP over Barton apology to BP
http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/06/20/democrats.barton...

A top Democrat kept up the Joe Barton drumbeat Sunday, saying the Republican legislator's defense of BP last week was an example of GOP ideology that favors big business.

(snip)
"In case you forgot what Republican governance is like, Joe Barton reminded you," Emanuel said, calling Barton's comments a "philosophy" that considered BP the "aggrieved party" instead of the oil giant responsible for the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history.

(snip)
Now the Democratic National Committee is promising a television ad focusing on Barton's comment, and Emanuel made sure to keep the issue alive on Sunday. While Murkowski shot back criticism at Emanuel, her Republican colleague Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama called Barton's comment a "dumb mistake" and declared on the CBS program "Face the Nation" that his party believed the oil disaster was a "man-made incident, a big mistake" by BP.

(snip)
On the same program, though, Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida said Barton's comment was "illustrative that the oil industry rules the roost." He noted that senators from major oil-producing states were trying to prevent the chamber from voting on a bill that would greatly increase the liability of oil companies for damages from spills.

4. They're going
to get rid of him before 2 years are up.

I'm thinking they can't get rid of him fast enough when you see Mitch McConell calling for him to go on national TV.

What we need to do is solidify his face to GOP before he gone so the message carries.

3. Keep it up!
Not only do they need to keep this front and center, making the GOP's idea that corporations are good, and the hell with the "little" people, but they need to also show how in almost everything the GOP does, their votes, their blocking bills from coming to the floor, etc., is all done in order for them to do the will of any corporation that is willing to buy them by way of huge donations! If they can show the majority of americans that the GOP only wants to do the will of their corporate masters, it will go a long way to help out the democrats in November.

Democrats need to play by the GOP rules and stop trying to "avoid" confrontation. The GOP has taken the problems that Bush left this country, and done their best to lay the blame for all of it on president Obama. True it is his now, but he didn't put the country in this position, Bush and the republicans in congress did that, and we need to keep reminding the public about the FACTS! Deregulation got us in this mess, use it against the republicans! Cheney gave the oil companies the ability to cause the BP spill by making it easy for them to cut corners and not use the "BEST" materials to protect those who work on the drilling platforms, and to protect the environment from what we all see everyday going on down in the Gulf!

Democrats need to get tough, and play tough, no more sitting back and "hoping" they can win without actually taking a strong stand against their opponents!

5. Ban the GOP ALREADY!!! QUIT DILLYDALLYING!!!
Why the republican party is allowed to keep on existing, ostensibly as a "political party" is beyond me. It has CLEARLY shown it is the most despotic, dangerous organization in the history of the planet, and needs to be put down like a rabid dog....and HARD.

Edited on Sun Jun-20-10 11:38 PM by breadandwine
You're making like the GOP should be targeted under federal racketeering statutes! That is SO UNFAIR! Corporations are people TOO ya know!

You're making it like the Republicans are MORLOCKS or something out of H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine."

I ask you, is that a fair comparison? Do Republicans look like THIS?

So.

Stop picking on the Republicans!

They are

Nuf said!

BUT let me add this:

All Barton is trying to do is help the poor, the tired, the huddled corporations yearning to breathe free.....
