I'm suing The Nation -I've had it!
I got a lawyer and he's suing The Nation and Publishers Billing Exchange for slander of credit and some other thing I can't recall right now. I'm so pissed at the moment..

I've gone through SO many rounds of canceling, getting sent to collections after canceling, written notice of cancellation to them, 'Return Rcpt Requested' notice, many phone calls where they assured me it was canceled and I wouldn't be bothered again ... EVERYTHING.

And they still send me Notices -inevitably followed by threats of sending me to collections.

I originally subscribed merely to express support for The Nation. I got it online to save them money. I never had time to read it and never did. Then I got laid off and canceled my subscription formally and repeatedly. The Nation can fade from existence for all I care. I've had it! They're worse than the credit card companies were. I wanted to buy a new van for a small business I want to start. Now I have to retain my lawyer. AAARGH!!!

5. I don't know about The Nation specifically..
But most magazines these days don't handle their own subscription business, it's outsourced to a company that specializes in those services.

6. Check online for your state's debt collection statute.
Such as "Idaho, statute, fair debt collection."

You likely have rights in your state, and you need to know them. They will typically limit the hours you can be called, the places you can be called, the number of times you can be called a day, and so on. You likely have a right to sue them for each violation of that law, and such civil damages could be something $500 each time.

While the likelihood of your getting them to stop by asserting the statute by phone is small, if you write them a demand letter for money, citing the statute and asking for damages, you'll be more likely to stop them. They follow the path of least resistance. Right now, some jackass at a collection firm is only out to make you send money. They don't know the law and don't care. But The Nation should. When you send the letter, copy it to several different people at The Nation. Force them to deal with you.

7. I had a billing problem with them too at one time and they kept charging me after canceling.
I didn't get the bill resolved until l wrote to them and asked if they were changing the name of their magazine to the 'Aryan Nation' because of their strong armed billing department. Within a couple of weeks after my 'Aryan Nation' letter they cancelled my debt.

I like the Nation, but there is something wrong with their billing department so I understand what you went through upi402. Try using my tactic. It worked.

8. That's riduculous (on their part).
I do subscribe and read, and I'm really appalled that they are treating you that way.
