I'm freezing my ass off up here on this mountain!
The high so far today is 29-degrees F. The peak wind 38 knots. I've had heavy snow showers all day. For two hours this morning I was zero-zero in heavy snow.

The snow whitens, then evaporates. It is brutal. Everyone is sick of it. The fire fighters are on the prescribed burns, pumping water in sub-freezing temps a week before fucking summer. It is crazy.

I am cold. Way too cold to post any pics.

2. My dear DemoTex!
Ooh, I'm so sorry to hear it!

That sounds just awful. It's supposed to be spring, dammit! Or is it one of those places where there are two season: winter and August?

I'll bet when the sun comes out...if it comes out, everything will be beautiful!

Hang in there, sweetie...

Summer IS coming, I promise...

Just curious.

9. I'm almost jealous.
I stepped outside yesterday to mow the back lawn and was all but knocked back inside the door by the heat and humidity.

It sounds like some type of fun to me, what you're in the midst of. As long as you're in a safe, sturdy structure, and have reliable power and food, and a date coming eventually when you know that this will be over.

God, I would love a break like that in my monotonous existence. I think. I'm probably missing something though, huh?

10. Weather has been getting on the weird side
all over the world. Take care and MAKE SURE you and Nick remain warm, or as warm as possible. May I recommend something? Rescue blanket INSIDE your bag. If you can get the THICKER one on your trip to bend, that does not break with a sneeze you will find it amazingly cozy.

And it goes without saying, and I am sure you know it, cover that head... with a nice cozy hat... and I mean something thicker than the one you were wearing the other day.

For those who don't know why, we lose most of our heat through the head.

14. The belief that we lose most of our heat through our heads is apparently untrue.
One would only lose most of his/her body heat through the head if the head were the only part uncovered.

From the British Medical Journal:

Festive medical myths
Excess heat loss in the hatless
As temperatures drop, hats and caps flourish. Even the US Army Field manual for survival recommends covering your head in cold weather because "40 to 45 percent of body heat" is lost through the head.19 If this were true, humans would be just as cold if they went without trousers as if they went without a hat. But patently this is just not the case.

This myth probably originated with an old military study in which scientists put subjects in arctic survival suits (but no hats) and measured their heat loss in extremely cold temperatures.20 Because it was the only part of the subjects’ bodies that was exposed to the cold, they lost the most heat through their heads. Experts say, however, that had this experiment been performed with subjects wearing only swimsuits, they would not have lost more than 10% of their body heat through their heads.20 A more recent study confirms that there is nothing special about the head and heat loss.21 Any uncovered part of the body loses heat and will reduce the core body temperature proportionally. So, if it is cold outside, you should protect your body. But whether you want to keep your head covered or not is up to you.

24. South Central Oregon is cold at the moment...
Klamath is at 4100 feet elev. so we aren't as cold as those up Hwy 97 around Bend(130 miles north). Not too bad during the day, but really crisp this morning at 5am. This is going to be a short growing season this year...the farmers are not happy with the colder weather. June was colder than usual last year and winter chill set in early at the start of September. Summer here this year may be just July and August...unless it snows in July.

As to heat loss from the head area...the bloodflow is heaviest in the brain area. Cover the head and you are much more comfortable.
