Blago arrives at trial with noted author in tow

Rod Blagojevich's arrival today for his corruption trial had a celebrity, Hollywood red carpet feel.

Wearing a dark suit and blue-patterned tie, Blagojevich entered the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse with his wife, brother-in-law and legendary New York journalist Jimmy Breslin.

After introducing Breslin to the waiting media, the ex-governor shook hands with an onlooker who said he was praying for him. "God bless you," Blagojevich said. "I can't wait to prove that I fought for you the whole way."

Earlier today, his lawyers filed filed motions alleging that the charges criminalize Blagojevich's free speech rights and should be dismissed.

The idea that Blagojevich was just talking politics when he was captured on undercover recordings is expected to be a key theme today in the opening statement of lawyer Sam Adam Jr.

1. I watched Blago on the Celebrity Apprentice and I cannot for the life of me figure out how he

was elected in the first place. He came off as a buffoon of average intelligence(and I'm being kind).

I am not surprised that he is being shadowed by one of my all time favorite newspaper journalists, Jimmy Breslin. This is just the kind of story Breslin loves.

Between the trial and Breslin, on some plane, Blago must be in seventh heaven. Did I also mention that he was an attention whore?
