Politifact Georgia Launched

June 07, 2010 5:25 pm ET by Joe Strupp

The latest version of Politifact, the St. Petersburg Times' Pulitzer Prize-winning fact-checking option, has launched in Georgia via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"The Georgia site will focus on the 2010 campaigns, particularly the races for governor and U.S. senator," a Politifact story states. "Like our other partner sites in Texas and Florida, PolitiFact Georgia uses the same journalistic approach and reader-friendly design as our national site. The Georgia edition is integrated with the national site and uses our Truth-O-Meter to rate the accuracy of statements by candidates, elected officials and political parties."

Among its initial finds: Sen. John Kerry rightly said the U.S. imports more oil than it did before 9/11; Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas wrongly called Turkey an Arab country, but admitted his mistake; and former Georgia governor Roy Barnes gets a half-truth for saying jobs rose under his leadership.

The more of these fact-checking sites we have, the better.
