My Local BP Station changed its sign to ARCO....

Of course, ARCO was fully purchased by BP in 2000, and is now fully integrated into that mega-corp. Just thought folks might wanna know.

2. Look for BP to disappear
Either they'll just rebrand everything Arco and remain BP only as the overseas megacorporation or the smartest guys in the room will come up with an entirely new brand.

What they really need is a top-down restructuring of their corporate culture away from cutting corners to shave costs and toward being a responsible entity that pays more than lip service to safety.

9. Yeah, I think they'll go with the 'rebranding' strategy.
Some questions just answer themselves.

11. I'm betting on new brand
I thought it would take a bit longer. Wouldn't be surprised if BP is gone (the name, that is) by the end of summer. Or sooner.

4. AM/PM is also owned by BP -- don't go there, either. [n/t]

6. Look for Gulf stations to pop up again, maybe...
BP acquired Gulf years ago and still operates service stations under that name in England, I have heard.

8. Chevron took Gulf over in 1984.
I've recently seen Gulf stations in the eastern US.

12. Fuckers
There are people who will be fooled by the name change. Ultimately, hopefully, every BP station will have to change their name with the new oil companies that take over their bankrupt ass.

are so much better.

Chevron - hiding MTBE leaking into ground water causing cancer. denies global warming exists
Shell - support destruction of Nigerian Delta in name of oil profits and uses genocidal militias to "keep the peace" = oil flowing and people dying.
ConocoPhillips - 3rd largest polluter in the United States per EPA.
Exxon - need to even go there.

13. Here's a picture of the BP/Arco protests
Just found this story online, in the Beverly Hills Courier, a free weekly paper. Apparently the protest was led by Sierra Club.
