An Arizona elementary school mural featuring the faces of kids who attend the school has been the subject of constant daytime drive-by racist screaming, from adults, as well as a radio talk-show campaign (by an actual city councilman, who has an AM talk-radio show) to remove the black student’s face from the mural, and now the school principal has ordered the faces of the Latino and Black students pictured on the school wall to be repainted as light-skinned children.

14. I have zero problem with the mural.

I just kept reading how few non-whites there were in the school and town and wanted to show that while recent estimates may show a low minority percentage it was not 100% lily white.

I didn't intend it to seem like I thought it was imaginary diversity. I also suppose for the sake of students even if there wasn't a minority within 300 miles it would be good to show that the rest of the world isn't as melanin deficient as Prescott.

The school is fairly diverse and I can't believe that people drove by screaming racial insults. What a shitty group of people.

It seems to me that we have a human tendency to categorize things and separate them according to measureable observations -- some arbitrary, some not. We divide ourselves by nationality, religion, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, etc. All of these divisions are really arbitrary, but in the past, it was likely necessary for our survival from a biological lens. However, should one smoke the herb, the truth is then made known to the observer. Regardless of our perceived differences, we are all one and come from a common source. Life is such a rare, priceless gift. Do you remember what it was like before you were born? Well, that's what death is going to be like -- sensory oblivion.

Enjoy every single second of the human experience, because you have all these observational tools that you can use within the environment that gives you a basis for comparison. Joy, Happiness, Love, Sadness, Pain, Sorrow, Pleasure, Annoyance, and so on -- all these feelings that you can suddenly experience if only but for a brief second in time.

Why deny these things to another? Embrace it and rejoice in it every second you can. Everyone you know someday will die. Life is far, far too short to take it so seriously. You're not going to get out alive. People should try to remember the past while remaining in the present and worry not about the future, for the future doesn't exist and never shall. There is only now.
