De Ijzeren Driehoek / The Iron Triangle - Exposing the Carlyle Group

Dutch Documentary (mostly in English with Dutch subtitles)

Translation of the first one minute forty seven seconds of this program:

"The war in Iraq is over. The rubble is still smoking while the first dozers are already entering the country. After the coalition forces destroyed Baghdad it is now primarily American companies who are to rebuild Iraq. An interesting point is that these companies usually have people on the payroll who have been politicians. Is this a conflict of interests or a new (global) way of doing business? One of the corporations that work this way is the Carlyle Group. On their payroll are people like : George Bush (Sr.), James Baker III and old premier John Major. The Carlyle Group is a private investment bank which doesn't come to the publics attention very often but it is one of the biggest US investors of the defense industry, telecom, property and financial services. What is the Carlyle Group? Who are the people behind the name? And how much power does Carlyle have?"

Total time 48 minutes - this thread will drop but this is required DU viewing

16. O.K., but a reminder again, it was co-founded by a DEMOCRATIC staffer of Jimmy CARTER's
Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 09:06 PM by UTUSN
Yes, CARTER had a NEST OF VIPERS at his breast: Tweety, CADDELL, and this dude, David RUBENSTEIN. I always wonder why he gravitated towards making REPUKES from the Poppy regime filthy rich(ER), instead of Dems. But take on Shrub from back then is delicious:

.... In a column posted yesterday on Salon.com, Joe Conason writes: "Preferring to avoid public scrutiny for obvious reasons, executives at the Carlyle Group usually say nothing about their firm's connections with the Bush dynasty. But last April 23, Carlyle managing director David Rubenstein spoke quite frankly about the comfy sinecure he provided to George W. Bush more than a decade ago -- and how useless Bush turned out to be. Whether he knew it or not, Rubenstein's remarks to the Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association were recorded."

Rubenstein said, "We put (Bush) on the board and (he) spent three years. Came to all the meetings. Told a lot of jokes. Not that many clean ones. And after a while I kind of said to him, after about three years - you know, I'm not sure this is really for you. Maybe you should do something else. Because I don't think you're adding that much value to the board. You don't know that much about the company.

Rubenstein continued: "He said, 'Well, I think I'm getting out of this business anyway. And I don't really like it that much. So I'm probably going to resign from the board.' And I said, thanks - didn't think I'd ever see him again. His name is George W. Bush. He became President of the United States. So you know if you said to me, name 25 million people who would maybe be President of the United States, he wouldn't have been in that category. So you never know. Anyway, I haven't been invited to the White House for any things." ....

24. Carlyle currently under suspicion for monopolistic practices
In Tuesday's Wall Street Journal, Rubenstein defended his position as chairman that Carlyle is not implementing a business plan of monopolization, though vertical integration or other strategy.

The article, on the back page of the investing section, was defensive of Carlyle, a $47 Billion private-equity group, as the WSJ has been tracking on the new trend of private-equity financiers having more billions now than ever.

Another fun group to track on is Blackstone Group, headed by Peter G. Peterson, former President of the Council on Foreign Relations.

31. Thanks helderheid. It's not just about oil,
but making BIG MONEY. No wonder * is pushing for an Iraq surge and planning to invade to Iran. There's still two years left to bleed us taxpayers dry.
