BP, Jindal, and whoever else has their hands on any purse strings, help the people of the Gulf NOW. Give it to them without red tape and nondisclosure agreements and other such bullshit.
I know there has been some money handed out to them, but it isn't nearly enough. BP has BILLIONs in profits and they give the Gulf chump change.
In addition, don't make these people have to ask for it meekly while 'tugging a forelock.' It isn't a handout to begrudge giving or a plea for more gruel.
These people need tangible help just for basic needs much less cleaning up the land they have been bound to for generations.
They deserve to receive it with some manner of decency. Their pride and pain shouldn't be denied. Don't act as if they are being done a favor when giving them something that they deserve.
They deserve their dignity and recognition for their suffering which has no end in sight.
Quit treating them like nuisances and vassals to be ordered about. They have a much more important bottom line than profits. They have a deep love of the Gulf and all that is there.
The money in and of itself isn't nearly enough. It is just enough to let them possibly hold on for the moment.
Give them a real passion for cleaning up and stopping this mess. If they don't feel the passion about this as more than a technical problem, their passion will not go away. It will morph into something else such as anger. That may come anyway.
They deserve no less, but they do deserve so much more.
