I can imagine how tough that job is anyway (and he is not some evil oil baron), much less when you know millions are watching on TV to see if you screw up.

No reason for the video of the repair. The leak OK, but let the damn guy do his work without the added pressure.

1. Sorry, I want to see what they are doing.
I have seen several failures and changes of plan and I want to know what is going on first hand. It is my right to know what is going on and they have provided a method to that end. Who gives one damn bit about the feelings of the operators. They are paid professionals and should be above that.

15. Exact same argument defenders of warrantless wiretapping make.
Welcome to the world of thinking like a right winger.

This needs to be documented.

5. What is he worried about? This sort of thing is practically foolproof
at least, that's what they told Obama, apparently.

8. Why do you think the operator is nervous? They've been doing an exceptional
job for days. I'm sure they're laser focused on what they're doing - it certainly appears that way.

10. It has to be unerving for someone who is use to working behind the shadows being followed by
millions of people around the world, and on national TV 24/7.

I mean I can sing pretty good in the shower but I doubt I could do it in front of millions of people.

I bet when he signed on for this job the idea of having an "audience of millions" wasn't what he/she was expecting. :)

12. Great pic of these guys-- there are more than one of them.

I can't begin to pretend to know what this kind of pressure must feel like, but I bet, like you, that their concentration is so laser-like focused, it's to the complete exclusion of all else.

11. We need to watch
to believe that ANYTHING is being done....

The pressure's on them anyway. It doesn't matter.

14. This affects millions of Americans and other nationalities directly...
Yes I have a right to know what is going on down there. ROVs are the only way the public can observe what is going on a mile underwater. If I want to see cleanup crews, I don't have to drive far.

Even if I may not understand technically what's going on, I still have the right to be able to see it. Secrecy breeds rumors and corruption.

A company that fucks up spectacularly like BP did and becomes a public health/environmental hazard loses the right to privacy.

But I have a great respect for the ROV operators. The skill they have operating those things is amazing. I understand their nervousness, but the feed should continue regardless.
