BP spill costs could reach $37 billion: analyst (marketwatch)
Edited on Wed Jun-02-10 12:07 PM by Statistical
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- BP's (BP 37.39, +0.87, +2.38%) Gulf of Mexico spill-related costs could reach $37 billion -- between $15 billion and $23 billion for clean-up costs and another $14 billion in claims, according to Credit Suisse. That would absorb three years of BP's free cashflow after dividends and capital spending, assuming $80 a barrel oil, and require a 10% rise in its debt-to-equity levels, the broker said. Credit Suisse cut BP's price target to 560 pence ($49 per U.S.-listed share) from 685 pence.

1. That's how much it would cost TODAY.
The damages are just as likely to be capped as the gusher today.

4. For every $5M in damage, an executive should spend a year in prison.
I mean, how much prison time would I get if I damaged $5M worth of something?
