Did Thad Allen and President Obama know that top kill was halted last night at 12am?

Thad Allen and Obama had already given their news conferences and it wasn't mentioned. The first I heard of it was from BP-Suttles at 5:30pm eastern this afternoon.

If they did know, why didn't either one of them announce it earlier today during their news conferences.

Did BP keep it from them??

If they did, I hope Obama realizes just how dangerous it is to trust BP.

If Allen and Obama didn't know, I fear for our country.

If BP kept this a secret from the Federal Government, everyone ought to take great pause and think about what that means.

1. Probably not! I still believe that BP tells them what they want to tell them, and

nothing more. I still don't see the Obama Administration running this operation, it certainly looks to me that BP is very much in charge.

8. BP is not unique

I don't trust "Big Oil" PERIOD.

I believe that they "conspired" with "Big Autos" to keep economical cars off the US market, necessitating the "Big Autos" "Bail Out."

I believe that they spent bizillions of dollars to keep green cars and green/renewable fuels off of the market.

And, while I detest and deplore our military in Iraq and Afghanistan -- I believe that our energy misallocations and stupidity have necessitated our presence their. :(

Controlling, do what they want and lie with absolutely no regard for others, no regard for anything except their own selfish needs.

The government cannot trust what BP tells them, period. BP's power needs to be taken away so they can't do anymore damage. But who will do it?

them until they wanted to let it be known (after the stock market closed?) The first I saw on it was a post here that somebody had seen on TOD. That seems to be the place to get the real story and expert (as opposed to DU expert) opinion.

BP says it stopped pumping mud into well 16 hours ago, but will pump again soon. Waited until end of business day to tell us.

14. A week ago, Obama ordered daily updates from BP.

The Obama administration directed more fire against BP last night, ordering it to provide daily updates on its efforts to contain the spill and to stop the use of a toxic chemical dispersant to break up the slick.

The White House said it expected the oil company to post daily updates on its website. "We think that is what the company owes, again, both us and the American people, as we work through our response and as the public has questions about their operations," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

20. It was said today on MSNBC the top kill had been paused

to see if it was working. It was expected to be resumed at some point, after a few hours. I see the threads here tonight offering conflicting info, so I am wondering what the status is ....

So they had to stop the operation. That per NYT.
