Poll question: People who dislike geeks and nerds tend to be in average more right-wing than the general population
It seems to me that's the case. What do you think?

1. It depends
The RW doesn't like life scientists and social scientists.

The LW doesn't like physical scientists and engineers.

The LW is more enamored of IT geeks than the RW.

3. "The LW doesn't like physical scientists and engineers."
Wait, what?

Young Earth creationists, anyone?

And by the way, IT geeks ARE a kind of "physical scientists and engineers".

13. I was thinking of software IT geeks
Computer science types, not computer engineering types. Or the many software types that have no engineering background -- such as musicians and math majors.

2. Perhaps that speaks more so to RWers who aren't exactly cognizant of their own RW leanings
For decades the various Con talking points have been sold throughout the broader culture without accurately identifying them for what they are and represent, resulting in scores of those who mindlessly accept certain views/positions as normal, reasonable, logical, even though those views/positions are VERY beneficial on a wide range of levels for Con/pro-corporate aims and ideals.

And maybe they hold eggheads in the same contempt that many Dem 'intellectuals' reserve for anyone who lends any degree of interest or credence to spirituality, UFOs, "conspiracy theories," etc

Unfortunately, people will always have reasons to hate one another.

4. Sort of,

I think people who hate geeks, simply resent working for someone who isn't as "cool" as they used to think they were.

6. Greeks such as Plato
had some teachings that fit into some bad areas that I disagree with.

He supported what he called the noble lie, having to tell the guards they were special, as a concept to fix the problem of who guards the guards. Or something like that.

Greek teachings from him also elevate a special class of aristocracy that are suppose to rule. I laugh on that often thinking maybe that was his concept of the noble lie. Note I don't think people should lie, everyone is special in their own way, making everyone special, and nobody above anyone else. However people can do different parts of society it is not because one person is more special then another.

They have some good ideas also, like questioning to find truths.

But some of the Greek stuff is in contradiction and is funny that way, and some of it is just self gratifying methods of thinking on ones own group.

Ever heard of a Greek fraternity, they treat the new people like crap called a hazing, and then those people when they get older treat new people like crap, and it becomes an institutionalized bad behavior for feeling of superiority.

Much bad stuff worked its way into the Greek system. But that is probably part of many systems.

I should think on some of the better stuff, many of the concepts of reasoning, and even Athenian democracy were some good parts of Greek culture.

10. There are similar hierarchical structures (Greek fraternity) in elementary/high schools as well
... establishing and fostering what Chomsky refers to as irrational attitudes of submission to authority, and exercises in chauvinism and jingoism.

9. I'm not especially fond of geeks and nerds .......
Some of them are about as far removed from reality as RW'ers are. In most respects, I'm about as far left as you can get.

11. I find there is a different type of dislike ie intellectual

Right wing: Don't like the bookish (english majors, etc), have only slight problem with hard science (engineer, math disciplines), have a big problem with soft science (Biology, etc).

Left wing: Like the bookish, have a big problem with hard science and, to a lesser degree, soft science.

Both pick and choose which parts of science they want to believe, or not believe.

Right: evolution, age of the universe, biology.

Left: Doctors, engineers, anyone who has taken algebra and passed. You're not even worth looking at if you got to calc.
