Slipknot bassist Gray found dead in Iowa hotel
May 24, 2010, 12:46 PM EST
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Police say the bassist for the Iowa metal band Slipknot has been found dead in a suburban Des Moines hotel room.

Urbandale police say a hotel employee found 38-year-old Paul Dedrick Gray dead in a room at the Town Plaza Hotel. Foul play wasn't suspected.

The Polk County Medical Examiner's Office plans an autopsy Tuesday.

Most Slipknot members grew up in the Des Moines area. The band, known for its grotesque masks, released its first album in 1999. It sold more than 1 million copies.

1. That sucks. RIP.
I saw Slipknot a couple years ago as part of Ozzfest. They actually put on a better show than I had expected. I was impressed.

2. They are kind of Des Moines, Iowa's pride and joy...in a weird way.
Local boys done good. And didn't forget where they came from.

4. Hate to speculate but it doesn't sound natural. In a hotel room in his hometown?

5. I actually saw Slipknot in concert at Tinley Park a couple of summers ago.
An all day heavy metal rock fest. I took my daughter which explains my presence there.
