I don't know how things are your way, but both my state (Massachusetts) and city (Boston) are financially hurting.

Between feeding the Military Industrial Complex and keeping two occupations ongoing, the piggy bank (US Treasury) is depleted so much that cities and states no longer receive the aid to keep social programs going. Libraries closing, teachers laid off, roads and bridges not being fixed and state employees being laid off are just a few of the problems either here or coming your way.

Call me silly, but I think a trillion dollars a year for 'defense' is just plain, fucking stupid.

United States Seabees are digging for water in Africa and our Coast Guard is guarding our latest acquisitions in the Hormuz Strait. The National Guard is around 25% of the boots we have on the ground in the Middle East sandbox. Too bad we can't call them up to help with the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Veterans with TBI and PTSD are NOT getting the care they both need and deserve.

25% of the homeless population are veterans.

25% of the prison population are veterans.

It's going to be a very interesting hurricane season. A Cat 3 or 4 storm could spread oil over most of the Southeastern states. Raining men is OK but raining oil is not something I'm looking forward to.

I hope the next species to inhabit this planet are smarter than we are. Sometimes I think cockroaches are smarter than we are.

2. It's the price we pay

for 40 years of starving the state and local governments of tax money. Whether it was the terrorist Howard Jarvis in CA or the loopy Barbara Andersen in MA, they have all danced to the tune of Grover Norquist in order to destroy governments and government services at all levels. None of this is an accident. The goal was always to turn the US into a third-world country. The plan is working. The saddest thing is that many of the people who will be hurst the most are cheering the terrorists on.
