I'm looking at the weather forecast for SE Louisiana
and reading warnings of tornadoes and potential water spouts. And I'm wondering what happens when a water spout hits that oil and carries it to the shore. Will people care more when they find oil in their backyard?

1. Damn. Oil sprayed across everything east of the Mississippi.

Monstrous underwater oil plumes found in US Gulf Coast

If it's that bad - dispersed oil will get into the cloud cover, become airborne and make its way up the coast and across everything east of the Mississippi. (My own evaluation of the situation - not based on detailed scientific data/analysis)

BP, Halliburton and Transocean should all be on the hook for this.

4. I don't know that it could get into the clouds
but if an oil-filled waterspout hit land, it would sure leave a mess. In fact, I wonder if it would even be a waterspout...Maybe it would just be an oilspout.

6. Fake or no...
It's not hard to envision that scenario heading for an oil platform in the gulf...especially with all the tropical storms and hurricanes the area gets.

3. I've wondered about that too - the gulf has MANY water spouts every

summer.

7. You assume that people don't care now
Edited on Sun May-16-10 12:39 PM by MountainLaurel
Which is absolutely not the case: Everywhere you go around here (the New Orleans metro area), people are talking about what's going happen, from the devastation of the economy in the southernmost parishes to seafood to hurricane season, which begins in a couple weeks.

8. Many care, yes. But I still hear more talk of drilling
than I do of implementing alternative energy sources. I'd like to hear some serious discussions and plans to wean ourselves off fossil fuels.
