NRA AND PALIN: LET THOSE ON NO-FLY LIST BUY GUNS
NRA Members Disagree With NRA Leadership: Those On Terrorist Watch List Should Not Be Able To Buy Firearms

http://thinkprogress.org/2010/05/15/nra-terrorist-list /

A recent Government Accountability Office (GAO) report found that individuals on the federal terrorist watch list were able to purchase firearms and explosives from licensed U.S. dealers 1,119 times. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I) told the Senate Homeland Security Committee this month that Congress should close this terror gap in the nations gun laws. If society decides that these people are too dangerous to get on an airplane with other people, then its probably appropriate to look very hard before you let them buy a gun, he said.

During the hearing, Bloomberg actually encountered some GOP opposition to this seemingly noncontroversial suggestion. Moreover, the NRA strongly objects to closing the terror gap, calling legislation dealing with the issue 21st Century McCarthyism. Bloomberg is abusing the word terrorist to resurrect and pursue a gun-control agenda, an NRA spokesperson said.

1. That's great. So when is Congress going to allow people with gun permits
in the Capitol?

The general population is supposed to walk around with these idiots packing guns, but they can't come around Congress! WHY? If it isn't safe for those in Congress, it isn't safe for anyone else.

HYPOCRITES!

2. So the no-fly list is a bloated, ridiculous piece of security theater...
...and people want to *expand* its use?

Really?

3. Yeah
we all know how accurate these no fly lists are, like the time Ted Kennedy was on it. Just because your on a no fly list doesn't mean you belong there. We all know how biased you are towards guns

5. So let's see, that means the Teddy Kennedy wouldn't have been able to buy a gun
Along with some young kids whose names matched those on the watch list. Oh, and no guns for peace activists, political critics, and members of the Green party, among many, many others.

Look, I'm just as big a fan of reasonable gun control as anybody else, but this is unreasonable, in fact it is unconstitutional. You don't get a hearing (like you do if you're being excluded from buying a gun for criminal, violence or mental health issues), you won't even know about this or be able to fight it.

This is just stupid, knee jerk stupidity in response to the government and society screaming "Terra" again.

7. Bush used the war on terror to take away many rights ...

once they are lost, it's hard to get them back. Too much money is spent on these programs to do away with them.

All governments love power. Ours is no exception. But you can always trust your government, the government has your best interests at heart. Especially if you are too big to fail.

8. What really IS terrifying is that some so-called 'progressives' are willing to go along with scum
like Bloomberg when it comes to 2nd Amendment issues. Pogo sure nailed it...long ago.

11. Typical Palin and NRA idiocy.
That either has any credibility is testimony to the brain-deadness of much of American society, and its media.

12. Ms. Palin looks forward to the final battle.
The prophets foretold it, don't you know.
Anyway, I am not surprised that she advocates for many guns on both sides of The Great Battle(TM). It will be spectacular, won't it Ms. Palin?

Don't you agree?

There is not much "think" or "progress" in the OP's article.
