How else could Bush think he could rally support from the American people?

1. He could nuke or carpet bomb the Iranians

Few here would look on that kindly. And where is he going to get the U.S. troops? He's pretty well ground our volunteer forces into the dirt.

7. So Doubtless, Sir, You Agree With Sen. Obama On the Subject....
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/printedition/chi-0409250111sep25,1,4555304.story

Obama said the United States must first address Iran's attempt to gain nuclear capabilities by going before the United Nations Security Council and lobbying the international community to apply more pressure on Iran to cease nuclear activities. That pressure should come in the form of economic sanctions, he said.

But if those measures fall short, the United States should not rule out military strikes to destroy nuclear production sites in Iran, Obama said.

"In light of the fact that we're now in Iraq, with all the problems in terms of perceptions about America that have been created, us launching some missile strikes into Iran is not the optimal position for us to be in," he said.

"On the other hand, having a radical Muslim theocracy in possession of nuclear weapons is worse. So I guess my instinct would be to err on not having those weapons in the possession of the ruling clerics of Iran. ... And I hope it doesn't get to that point. But realistically, as I watch how this thing has evolved, I'd be surprised if Iran blinked at this point."

4. well...
we'll have at least 3 carrier groups there in a few days, 4 if you count the French (not sure what the Brits have there at the moment)...one of our CGs is supposed to be rotating in so another one can rotate out, but...your guess is as good as mine...the level of breathless rhetoric doesn't seem quite high enough yet.

5. I think it is the reality of 'The Hague' that is apparent to advisors
They may not tell him WHY he can't his Hasbro war, but they are likely to tell him he can't.

I wish I could see his tantrums.. a mix of indignation, confusion, and throwing about of gnawed toy soldiers.

6. The only way the surge fails
is if the Surrendercrats pass a time table OR the Iranians ship so many weapons to the AL-kiadi terrorists that we have to stop them with nukes or ...

(typical repuke response... so yeah, Surge Fails mean we gotta go!)

(so many logic errors in the above reasoning, but pointing them out just makes you a French lovin Surrender monkey)

9. IMHO this is a very dangerous time with Bush hitting all-time low in polls...
He is never going to admit he made a mistake. He will just double-down and gamble on a 'miracle' with all of us left to pay the bill.

10. An attack on Iran would just piss more people off, not rally support.

11. Iran was a frequesnt subject in the Repub debate.
I've already said this in another post: I think the Repubs need another war to win in 2008 and Iran would be the next fear factor.
