Mrs R and I were wondering: Can't Governer Arnie step and in put a leash on the LAPD?
I said I wasn't sure he had any authority, but it would be nice if he could; since the Mayor and the City Council of LA apparently don't have even ONE gut among them; they've NEVER even TRIED to restrain those LAPD thugs, as far as I know.

(Anyone who lives in LA and wants to correct me if I'm wrong with that last statement, feel free to do so. All I know is what I read here on the East Coast.)

Mrs R says he's the Governor, and that ought to give him SOME authority.

Californian DUers, educate us, please. Thanks.

1. An outside guess... Home Rule?
Certainly LA/County has tremendous autonomy from the state, so I'm guessing it totally functions under Home Rule, meaning the State has transferred nearly all regulatory/enforcement functions to the city/county jurisdiction. Thus, the Feds might be able to step in on constitutional (civil rights) grounds, but it would be harder for the state to step in...

Just my guess...

2. The LAPD has been using the same tactics since the Vietnam War
Nothing has changed. There will be the obligatory "investigation" which will go nowhere followed by media Alzheimer's and the same sociopaths that currently make up the rank and file will continue to beat Rodney King and anyone else who gets in the way of corporate control. It's just the way they do justice in "Liberal" Hollywood.

Actually, some homework tells me that the LAPD has been violating the Constitution and Bill Of Rights since WWII with the Zoot Suit fiasco.

Seems that the L.A. cops just like Fascism. Damn those Hollywood "Liburls" Like Ron Ray Gun.

3. So, what's the hold they have over the City government? Why are the Mayor and the Council
so afraid of them? I can't figure it out.

6. He could if he chose to do so....
He will not. He is a Repuke in one of the most liberal states in the union - he MUST negotiate, but the Prison Industrial complex donated BIG $$$$ to him. He is nothing if not loyal.

It's all so sick and twisted I feel like I need to puke.
