so the sun does rise and set on Mercury, but it takes more than a year(88 days approximately) for this to happen.

45. A teabagger told me yesterday that he was drafting a plan to fly to the sun.
I told him that the sun is unbelievably hot and would melt the spacecraft before it came within a thousands of miles of the surface. He had an easy answer.

"We're going at night."

Edited on Mon May-10-10 11:20 PM by kickysnana
My Dad said this from his hospital bed this week. He went in with exhaustion and has been sleep walking & talking.

Dad wakes up with a start and calls for a nurse.

Nurse Dan: "Mr D can I help you with something?"
Dad: You had better keep an eye on me.
Nurse Dan: "Is there something wrong?"
Dad: "I keep passing out and I think I might die"
Me: "Dad, why do you think you are passing out?"
Dad: "Because it gets all black"
Nurse Dan: "Mr D you are on a heart monitor and we will see if there is any problem and come right in to help"
Dad: "Ok then, because I sure don't want to wake up dead."

Good night STC

52. not really
It is never completely dark. It gets darker after sunset, yes.

And the sun comes "up?" Relative to what? The sun isn't moving, well it is that is not what causes it to appear in the sky, rather it appears in the sky because the earth is rotating.

Also, the sun doesn't appear in the morning, morning happens when the sun appears. The sun was there and the earth was rotating long before we started calling that "morning."

Your post reminds me a lot of Creationism: imagining intelligent forces behind everything and speaking as though your viewpoint were the center of the universe. You are moving when the sun appears, the sun isn't. "Up" is only from your viewpoint. "Dark" is only to your eyes.

the sun doesn't "come up" ... the Earth rotates, and the sun is relatively stationary ... so you're wrong. The sun never comes up. The Earth spins to the left.
