Who is the Democrat running for Senate in Utah?
Is he or she a heavyweight (a person with gravitas, stature, money in the bank and a past or present elected office holder), or a lightweight (some clown who has no money, no name recognition, no experience, no party support and gives off that Mondale/Dukakis vibe)?

The reason I ask is because I'm hearing that defeated Republican senator Bob Bennett will now run as an independent, possibly splitting the conservative vote in Utah. Could this seat be on the table?

I almost never agree with Bob Bennett on anything , but at least he was a gentleman and did what he did with a smiling face. I don't recall him smearing his opponents on a personal level.

6. Unconstitutional
The "sore loser law" has got to be unconstitutional. It attaches some significance to belonging to a political party when there is no mention of political parties in the US constitution.

7. Blue dog versus a progressive in June primary!
The tone was different over at the Democratic state convention, in an opposite corner of the Salt Palace Convention Center (you can imagine the parking situation downtown Saturday).

The marquee race there was between Rep. Jim Matheson, a five-term veteran of the U.S. House, and newcomer Claudia Wright, a former high school history teacher and progressive Democrat who came out of nowhere in February.

It's clear that Matheson lost a lot of friends in the party when he voted against President Obama's health care reform initiative. Wright came in with 45 percent of the delegates' votes to Matheson's 55 percent, forcing a primary in June.
