80 times the electrical output of the entire world, for a few billionths
of a second... what a display of power... and in reality it is little or nothing at all compared to what goes on "out there".

>> Electrical discharges (Lichtenberg figures) illuminate the surface of the Z machine during a recent shot. The most recent advance gave an output power of about 290 trillion watts for billionths of a second, about 80 times the entire world's output of electricity focused onto a target the size of a cotton reel.

8. You should be both impressed and terrified.
Science is neither good nor bad, it is merely a tool to be wielded by those who would question the inner most workings of the natural world.

Be impressed by the shear power it has given us, but be terrified of those who would misuse its gifts.

It's always worked for me.

Q3JR4.

6. Ah! Thank you. Must be an aberrant form of English from across the pond.
Like professor Higgins said, "Why can't the English teach their children how to speak?"

7. And they said it couldn't be done. Hah!

Actually I'm practically clueless when it comes to science however one can never go wrong stating that a scientific breakthrough was at some point considered impossible:) That I said I did eyeball the article and thank you for posting it. Even for a scientifically challenged person like me, being confronted with something so big like a possible alternate theory of galaxy formation is a very nice reprieve from so much crappy news.

9. Alternate theories about what we see when we peer through huge
lenses are so overblown... glad you liked it...
