Emaciated dogs found chained
Source: Omaha World Herald

From the road, Kelly Nutter could see one sickly dog on the overgrown rural lot near Pacific Junction, Iowa.

Once she got farther back on the property, she realized she was dealing with more than two dozen pit bulls, tethered with heavy chains to an axle buried in the dirt.

The dogs -- most emaciated, dehydrated and sickly -- were seized by Nutter, who serves as the shelter manager for the Loess Hills Humane Society and as an animal control officer for Mills County. Nutter, assisted by other shelter and county employees, found 27 pit bulls on the property near Pacific Junction.

Two of the dogs, sick with pneumonia, were euthanized. The rest are recovering in the fledgling shelter, which opened last summer.

1. The shelter needs blankets and stainless steel pails
Interested donors can contact the shelter at 712-527-0753.

“We're a brand new shelter,” said Nutter. “We were not prepared to handle something like this.”

That's first and foremost.

I speak for many in thanking Ms Nutter for her actions. And I welcome her to the club.

send them a donation. It doesn't matter how much it is, just send one. Everything helps in a situation like this.

The shelter needs blankets and stainless steel pails to serve as water buckets, Nutter said. Interested donors can contact the shelter at 712-527-0753.

5. Poor dogs! Goddam world.......
Shelters are ovverrun with pit bulls now. I hope these find good homes on Iowa farms, with room to run and rats to catch!

7. People that do this kind of shit should be "spayed" with a fucking..............
............dull and dirty can opener. My wife and I shelter with some small help from a local vet who spays and neuters the approx 15 feral cats we have. A stray "one eyed" pug has also "adopted" us. I would rather be with animals than with certain types of people.

12. Marta and I visited the shelter earlier today and made a $ donation, photos on the way

I'll post photos a little later. My thanks to the mods for not moving this animal story to a different location. Usually LBN stories are whales, seals, etc.

They are doing wonderful work on a tight budget. It was clean. The animals are happy. Notice the blanket under the puppy in the bottom photo.
