you know one of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan books was about an
attack on the computers that are the operating systems for Wall Street...

Of course it was way over the top but it was great beach reading.

I read it back in the summer of 1995 out in Colorado on Vacation.

I thought it was too fantastical and then yesterday...

Cyber Terrorism is talked about but everyone seems to be enthralled with explosions and dark skinned sinister middle eastern men.

Could this Little "glitch" have been a trial run?

2. The book is called
IN DEBT'S HONOR

In my opinion it his best. and yest it had Wall Street manipulation...

The ending is sooooooo awesome. It was a 9/11 before 9/11 happened.

I wish this book would become a movie.

It has everything, cyber terrorism, sex slavery, war with submarines and battleships, and the enemy was not Arabs.

The glitch in this book caused America to crash badly and be very weakened....

A great read.

6. poke around -- there are various theories floating
My sense is that someone has the power to jerk the stock market at will, and did so to send a threat or warning to someone else. Sort of a horse head in the bed type thing.

7. I was considering something similar
If this was really caused by just one trader screwing up just one trade on his iPhone

Couldn't you lure some significant number of traders into one room (20 or so) pull out your guns and demand their iPhones, then use them to make any number of trades similar to the 'one' that caused yesterdays crash?

I assume a cocktail party at a nice restaurant would get some people to show up. Crashing the market from the backroom it The Russian Tearoom seems appropriate somehow.

and our Cyber Security leaves a lot to be desired.

That said that was based on a real incident that was an oops in the Tokyo exchange in the early nineties.

11. Didn't Clancy also write a book about a terrorist flying a plane into the Capital?
Though Condi Rice said no one could imagine such a thing.
