PALIN Breaks with TEA Party Activists in California To Support Carly Fiorina
" Sarah Palin is breaking with Tea Party activists in California and throwing her support to former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina in her bid to be the Republican Senate nominee against Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer.

“I’m a huge proponent of contested primaries, so I’m glad to see the contest in California’s GOP, but I support Carly as she fights through a tough primary against a liberal member of the GOP who seems to bear almost no difference to Boxer, one of the most leftwing members of the Senate,” said Palin in a written statement released Thursday afternoon.

Palin’s swipe at a “liberal member of the GOP” is a thinly veiled attack on Fiorina’s top Republican rival -- former Rep. Tom Campbell, R-Calif., a law professor who studied under Milton Friedman at the University of Chicago and served as finance director under Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R).

Although Campbell has a tough-on-spending record, he has a libertarian bent and supports abortion rights, same-sex marriage, and has backed higher taxes to close the state’s budget gap.

In backing Fiorina, Palin is breaking with some in the Tea Party movement who support a third, more conservative -- but less funded -- Republican candidate, Assemblyman Chuck DeVore.
