DNC Dean: Bush Betrays 'Family Values' for Cinco de Mayo
WASHINGTON, May 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Even as he stood before a
Mariachi band Friday to commemorate Cinco de Mayo, President George W. Bush
was orchestrating a behind the scenes assault on immigration reform and
immigrants that the New York Times called a betrayal of family values. As
the New York Times pointed out, negotiators "struggling to draft an
immigration bill in Washington are being pressured by the White House and
Republican leaders to gut the provisions of the law that promote the unity
of immigrant families" and that would "shut out hundreds of thousands of
people who have applied for family visas under current rules and are
patiently waiting because of long backlogs."

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following
statement:

"Cinco de Mayo commemorates the battle at Puebla in 1862 when Mexican
soldiers defeated an invading imperial force more than twice their size. It
was a victory for freedom and liberty. Today, a similarly disproportional
assault is being waged on family values by Republicans in Washington,
including President Bush, who want to derail comprehensive immigration
reform and divide families merely for political gain.

"Over the years, Cinco de Mayo has been embraced and celebrated by
Americans across the nation and the day has been woven into our cultural
heritage as a reminder of our country's great diversity. I challenge the
President on this Cinco de Mayo, and the Republicans in Congress, to stop
their assault on families, to stop standing in the way of comprehensive
immigration reform, and to embrace the diversity that has made America
great."

1. This needs recommends. It takes courage.
He also spoke out in Miami. All I have to do is think of the kids left here without their parents...or like in TX being put in camps with their parents to wear their little orange jail jumpsuits..and I can't see how people can do it.

"Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean called the immigration bill currently before Congress "insane" because it would require many of the nation's 12 million illegal immigrants to return home before applying for citizenship.

..."This is a government that can't find a six-foot-four terrorist. How is it going to find 12 million people?" he told a group of more than 100 party supporters at Miami's Parrot Jungle Island. And if all those individuals decided to go home on their own, "imagine what will happen to our economy?" Dean added."

4. Kudos Governor! Our Hispanic friends need more representation like this.
Thanks to Governor Dean whose open minded vision includes everyone, along with the rich history and experiences which have made us all who we are.

Dean educates and enlightens so many of us in America who have been so isolated and disconnected from other cultures.

Our disconnection from others hurts us in the long run.

There are those who wish to hoard, covet and abuse power and they are the ones who are keeping Americans and America, from more opportunities to learn, grow and expand our perspectives, minds and our lives.

7. I'll just bet bush stood
before a Mariachi Band and got his 10 millionth photo op in but bush's actions speak for themselves..not the photo ops we have to endure of the most reviled pres(sic) in history.

WTG, Dean! the bushits..busted again by the former Guv of Vermont and our Chairman of the National Democratic Committee.
