If BP is on the hook for fishermen's business losses, and assuming that the oil doesn't kill seafood in the larval stage outright, the pressure to approve oil contaminated seafood for human consumption will be great.

Not looking forward to that....

1. This is why I don't eat seafood in the first place...
you never know what you're going to find in it, and I definitely won't eat it now after this disaster.

4. I'm Also Concerned With All The Crap They're Using To Break Up The Oil...
The ramifications of this spill is still early to predict...we're in literally uncharted waters here as I suspect by the time this sad spill plays out, it could make the Exxon Valdez and the Torry Canyon look like literal "spits in the ocean". The effect on the ecosystem will reverberate for years as the oil moves around the food chain...traces of this disaster could show up in seafood for years.

My concern is the crap they're using to try to break up the oil. I'm wondering what's in that chemical agent. Is it a detergent...made with phosphates that we've seen destroy rivers and lakes? So is the "cure" going to be a part of this disaster??

5. You bet. And the formula is a "trade secret".
PR beats health concerns.

7. The Moment It Shows Up In The Food Chain...
...it will no longer be a trade secret, but yet another criminal liability. Seems sometimes the cure is a bigger poison than the illness.

Cheers...

10. Is there the thought that consumption of petroleum is dangerous?
I'm not talking about drinking a gallon of it straight. Are there people really fearful of ingestion of petroleum in their seafood?

11. Is there any testing showing that consumption of petroleum is safe?
And don't forget the dispersants.
