POLL -- should FL require ultrasounds of women seeking abortions

DU with it what you will -- :)

from he story:

Legislative session ends with rancorous debate over ultrasound mandate

The abortion debate Friday was so raw, heated and, at times, graphic that House Republican leaders ordered teenage pages off the floor and cleared the public galleries of children. Two Democrats wept as they spoke against the ultrasound mandate.

The debate was emblematic of a Legislature that is increasingly conservative. After more than three hours, the House approved the measure — on a 76-44 party-line vote — to require ultrasounds for women seeking first-trimester abortions. The measure now goes to Crist, who already is expressing concerns and appears likely to veto it.

6. i had a beloved poly-sci prof in the 80s who thought there was "middle ground"
in the abortion debate...where there could be restrictions that everyone could agree upon. he was wrong, and this is wrong.

10. a 21st Century Lysistrata! I LOVE it!!
Edited on Sat May-01-10 09:55 AM by nashville_brook
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysistrata

Lysistrata (Attic Greek: Λυσιστράτη, "Army-disbander") is one of the few surviving plays written by the master of Old Comedy, Aristophanes. Originally performed in classical Athens in 411 BC, it is a comic account of one woman's extraordinary mission to end The Peloponnesian War. Lysistrata convinces the women of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their husbands and lovers as a means of forcing the men to negotiate peace, a strategy however that inflames the battle between the sexes. The play is notable for its exposé of sexual relations in a male-dominated society and for its use of both double entendre and explicit obscenities. The dramatic structure represents a shift away from the conventions of Old Comedy, a trend typical of the author's career. It was produced in the same year as Thesmophoriazusae, another play with a focus on gender-based issues, just two years after Athens' catastrophic defeat in the Sicilian Expedition.

9. I thought the right wing-nuts HATED government intrusion
yet they are advocating government intrusion on pregnant women.

Can't republicans make up their minds already? They flip-flop so much is gets quite confusing trying to figure them out.

...to see if there's anything inside but cobwebs and crucifixes.

18. It's like the FL Republicans were trying to impress the Teabaggers
as much as possible before the end of the session. They're overestimating the power of the flailing anti-Obama backlash, though. Getting smacked down on the teacher tenure bill should have taught them something. The only good here is that they're failing, and everyone sees them failing.
