Good graphic of the oil wells, rescue plan well
On the left is the "proposed" relief well that BP may have to drill since they cannot shut off the main line.
on the right is the existing well that Horizon tapped.

The Horizon Rig is where the exploded rig has sunk, and the ROV's are the undersea units trying to shut off the oil line

1. Funny how they show the water as blue
With all the oil, it wouldn't remain very blue.

9. I'll bet that relief well will be subsidized due to the 'emergency' nature
of this catastrophe.

Fuck up, create an emergency, get the government to pay for a whole new rig.

5. Thanks for the post, good graphic. (aside) I've read that deepwater drilling poses
a new set of challenges / risks for the equipment currently available, which were designed originally for shallower operations.

7. Wonder if they will have a blow out protector on the new well.
This is so sickening.

8. Trouble is this is going to take weeks, months to do
Most favorable estimates put it at ninety days, but even the experts acknowledge that they're dealing with the unknown and untried here.

Meanwhile, more oil is going to keep coming out, 5000 bbls./day. You can kiss the Gulf Coast goodbye.

Finally heard mention today that Obama is, in light of this disaster, going to reconsider his recent approval of more offshore drilling. Hopefully he sees the light and stops it before it starts.
