Here's how Kris Kobach showed up Tuesday in a nationally distributed story on FOXNews:

"Kris Kobach, a University of Missouri-Kansas City law professor who helped write the Arizona legislation, said he anticipated legal challenges and carefully drafted the language. He said the state law is only prohibiting conduct already illegal under federal law."

Looked at one way, UMKC gets a little national street cred, having employed a lawyer who's at the heart of the biggest national argument over immigration policy in years.

Looked at another way, UMKC is associated with a professor who just helped pen a law that President Barack Obama has called "misguided," that has attracted harsh critics from the mayor of Phoenix to the president of Mexico, and that may be soon challenged by the U.S. attorney general.

For years Kobach has made a name for himself by coming up with laws designed to be used against illegal aliens. Along the way, he's been accused -- for good reasons sometimes -- of fostering an anti-immigration bias.

But in the end, Kobach himself gets plenty of national attention (some would say notoriety) that will help him get his next anti-illegal alien gig.
