Iraqi Parliament takes their 2-month summer vacation break.

Republicans and Democrats are fiercely opposed on how best to handle the war in Iraq, but they have found one issue on which they can unite: They are outraged that Iraqi politicians are considering a lengthy break this summer - as long as two months.

The Iraq parliament's recess, starting this July, probably would come without Baghdad politicians reaching agreements considered key to easing sectarian violence. Examples include regulating distribution of the country's oil wealth and reversing measures that have excluded many Sunnis from jobs and government positions because of Baath party membership.

"If the Iraqi government expects continued support from the United States, they should re-evaluate their unacceptable decision to take a two-month vacation and continue to work on the important issues like incorporating the Sunni minority into the government, implementing an oil revenue sharing plan and taking a greater role in security efforts," Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., said Thursday.

"The Iraqis have very important work to do, and they need to get it done - period."

1. Perhaps send a 1-month "clean" funding bill, then try again with more GOPers? nt

2. Use surge troops to surround parliament and lock them in until finished...
That is my plan... Lock the fuckers in the parliament and they cannot leave until they have negotiated and agreed to every outstanding item. And after they do that, they must also go on the record, with a vote on whether they want US presence to continue.

3. Hey, no artificial timetables, now...just get back to work.

Aaaaand this is why they NEED a deadline. They CAN take two months' off, because 'Murika's running everything the way 'Murika wants anyway and they know it.

4. Could it be possible, just possible
that the parliament knows that this is the reaction they would get from the "occupiers" who are doing all sorts of hand-wringing over the death of their troops? Could they be telling Bush and his apoligists: "So you don't want to set a time table to leave? We have our constituents berating us for not being able to make you leave. You leave us no choice but to demonstrate that since our input about Iraq is so unimportant to you and your war hawks that we will 'take time off' from a job you do not even respect. Meanwhile, your troops will continue to die for whatever reason you have them here. And when we come back refreshed and rested, we will be ready to continue to accomplish nothing with your help."

8. Then they're really screwed!
If their "constituents" want them dead, what will the U.S. military, who are protecting them, want them when they leave them on a lurch for 2 months!!

9. I'm afraid quislings usually are screwed after their benefactors depart.
Many of them, like Chalabi, have made a fortune bilking the US of millions of dollars.

Many will retire with great wealth, i.e., American tax dollars, to other countries.

But don't believe for a second that the puppet leaders are anything but stooges for the US.

11. Probably that, and something simpler.
My guess is that when these legislators take their summer vacation from Iraq, they'll all pack their bags, hop on their jets, and go to Dubai and never come back. They know a sinking ship when they see one.
