"Decoupling" is apparently the business bussword of the moment.

I've been seeing it over and over in business articles.

You too?

1. What, they finally found something besides 'paradigm'?
'Decoupling' doesn't sound good to me. I'd rather 'couple'.

3. "Decoupling" sounds like a euphemism for breakup or divorce.

And a silly one at that!

19. Then I guess I've been doing it, in a way
Partly due to the anticipated decline in the US dollar I decided 2 years ago to switch about half of my domestic stock investments to foreign equity mutual funds. Investment advisors don't like to see that much in foreign vs. domestic equities but I've realized about 25% for each of the past 2 years on foreign stocks and about half that on domestic. I'm thinking about committing even more to international.

2. Have you ever noticed...
That fads burn through the business community at a faster rate than fads go through teenagers?

Mindless. Utterly mindless. Just flailing around.

5. Many's been the mindless presentation I've had to suffer through.
And often the presenter's main goal has been to include all the latest buzzwords. Sknnnnnn... :boring:

6. It's just being proactive to achieve forward mobility
Don't fight the future, partner the world of tomorrow and co-create change!

By the way, did you see where the cheese went? Somebody seems to have moved it...

8. Having once been a Director of Marketing...
For a tech startup, can I tell you how much I absolutely hate that opaque marketroid drivel? I had a simple rule: he that spoke that crap around me got choked until his eyes popped out on 12-inch stalks.

It's like a secret language for a boy's treehouse club. Fuck that and the horse it rode in on. It never told me anything useful.

10. But it makes so much more sense when presented as a set of PowerPoint bullet points!

I'm in charge of the IT department at a mid-sized company. As a rule, if I catch any salesperson/consultant, etc... talking to me that way, I give them an unceremonious boot out the door at the earliest opportunity. I take Buzzword-Enhanced language to be a sign that the speaker doesn't know what the fuck they are talking about.

12. Exactly.
Marketroid is filler used to obscure the fact that the presenter has nothing useful to offer in a presentation. If one spoke that martian and was able to distill it down to it's essence, it would be a two or three sentence presentation. And dumber than a box of hammers.

16. Heh, tell me about it. If I hear someone use 'web 2.0' one more time...
they always use it completely out of context and have no idea what they are saying either...

7. That and the permeation of the word "metrics" by the bloviating caste.
At first I thought that Wolfie and his gal were breaking up at the World Bank.

15. Unfortunate "Collateral Damage" is all it is.
Caused by "Asymmetric warfare" within the business community
The "out sourcing " of labor only creates some that think they are "enemy combatants"
but in reality are given "job flexibility" in the fight that is needed for "deregulation" of the industry.

"Negative patient care outcome" can result when some lose their healthcare which is when
"transfer tubes" are used to ship the former patient to a "place of rest".

that decoupling is not living up to the promised ROI
