My cynical take: GOP pushing immigration into news because financial reform bites their ass too deep
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 04:08 PM by blm
Of course, they want financial reform done behind closed doors where they can quietly press their DIRTY, FILTHY positions protecting the fascist agenda. So....they press and press an issue into the spotlight that should sufficiently attract their base and the teabagger mentality.

If you were a Republican in DC charged with protecting fascism while posing as an angry populist....wouldn't YOU?

Edit: See ProSense's posted links below - these headlines PROVE the point:

Tea parties, backing the Arizona immigration bill

Where Are the Tea Party Protests About Wall Street?

22. I can't see the GOP wanting to eliminate illegals. The corporations make too much money off of them.
Cops will harrass and abuse people even more now and freepers/baggers/will be giddy and stupidly fooled (again) but the system will continue as usual.

Big business ain't givin' up their low wage workers.

They need to be able to trot them out again, and again, and again.

10. No cheating jocks or dead blondes this week
No family faking a kid in a balloon, no missing rich girls, no other woman about to give birth to a litter.

Yeah, I'd say you've got that right.

13. Dems could use this by pointing to the enforcement that occurred under Clinton,
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 04:09 PM by redqueen
and contrasting that to the enforcement that occurred under Bush.

It makes a difference.

15. Schumer's been trying to push immigration ahead of climate change, financial reform for months now.
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 05:17 PM by blm
Not because he believes it's a pressing issue, imo, but in an election year it wouldn't help his REAL target - Harry Reid. Schumer wants to be majority leader and would do whatever he could to trip Reid up for November. Nevada is one of those states where reform as an issue probably won't play well.

16. There is nothing that will energize the Teabaggers
and Republicans more than the immigration issue or cap and trade. If they get Obama onto either of those issues the Republicans will gain control congress in 2010.

19. The real GOP powers just USE the racism of the ignorant as their handy smokescreen when they're
about to be exposed on their fascist agenda.

Getting caught in bed with big banks with no excuse handy? LOOK....brownskinned people want to take jobs away from white people.

Edited on Sat Apr-24-10 05:08 PM by gulliver
They may have pushed it, but it is more likely to backfire than not, IMO. The bill is already signed into law, and the news is over. Now who is going to remember it more, Hispanics or other people? I think the law will be forgotten by everyone but Hispanics, who may remember it all too vividly in November.

On edit: And not just Hispanics, btw.
