| A little heads up for the Teabagger/Militia folks from one who once packed heat for Uncle Sam. |
|
If you seriously believe that you are capable of going up against the United States government, I would urge you to put your affairs in order, because you will be swiftly and efficiently fragged, tagged, and bagged. The idea that a bunch of rag-tag, candy-ass, drunks believe they could stand up against even a platoon, let alone the full force of the US military is hysterically funny. You have no idea how stupid you appear, prancing through the woods in your cammo, to individuals who have seen real combat. Deal with it, ass-holes. The C-in-C is an African-American. He was democratically elected (in a landslide). All the rest of your whining is bullshit, and you lack even the rudimentary courage to state your true objection to our President. Fuck it, I haven't worn a green suit for almost 40 years, but I just might re-up for a chance to put one in the ten ring of a few of you jackasses.

The militias would be sorely outgunned against them or the US military.
A couple of A-10 sorties or an artillery "fire for effect" would pretty much decimate any militia here.

Yeah, they get the first shot. Then.. it's our turn. The big black boot comes down. And I do not mean the black boot of black folks. Nuh-uh. The big black boot of the United States Military, swore to protect the US Constitution and the President.. no matter what. Our men and women are not dying out there so to let a few drunk racist peckerheads attack the President at home. If they think they have a chance, it's because they are not too smart to begin with, they all drunk or on hillbilly heroin, and they are brainwashed by that evil scumbag foreigner Rupert Effing Murdock. And a few greedy homegrown billionaires who are using this whole thing as a scam to increase their wealth even more.
After the first shot.. all bets are off.

|
...is purely coincidental. In their world, "the troops" are all aryan supermen ready to take back the homeland from the Kenyan usurper (cos if there's one thing the troops hate, it's an uppity n****r, LOL). One teabagger of my acquaintance posted on his Facebook profile how hard it must have been for "the troops" at John Murtha's funeral to resist firing into his coffin. I dare say there are some members of the armed forces who resent Murtha's desire to hold them accountable when they commit war crimes, but it's scary that these are the ones that teabaggers regard as America's finest, not like those candy-ass fake troops who may actually have voted for Obama and supported Murtha.

Don't you ever watch the news? I mean seriously. These people in the Middle East with "pointed sticks" have kept the United States at war for the last decade without being able to muster a single tank, ship, or aircraft. They've cost us trillions of dollars and thousands of lives and annihilated much of the infrastructure.
If such a thing happened here it would collapse the economy, and thus the tax base for funding the war, within a week.

they may not plan on an armed uprising. They might plan events like the Oklahoma bombing. Even then, they could never take over the government. But there could be deaths in large numbers because of these idiots. Even stupid people can kill. Even stupid people can encourage them to kill. It doesn't take brains or common sense. It just takes a handful of crazies with a bomb. They keep saying that this administration is taking away their rights, but they still have the right to get together in groups and be stupid and possibly dangerous.

In Jon Ronson's book "THEM" he interviews Rachel Weaver, the daughter of the Ruby Ridge massacre survivor Randy Weaver. She was present as a small child when the troops closed in.
She owns lots of guns, and really enjoys firearms. But she has NO DELUSIONS about anyone's ability to "fight the government".
She said, "You can have as many guns as you want. It doesn't matter. If they want to get you, they can just have a helicopter drop a firebomb on your house".

Since we've been working for years now on such militia groups in Iraq and Afghanistan, I sarcastically suggested that they send such mega-troops over to Afghanistan to clean up the mess.

1) we invaded a foreign country. As the old saying goes, "an invading Army's mission is not to lose, an insurgents mission is to make sure the invaders don't win".
So suppose that an illegal militia, which wouldn't have the support of the general population, starts something, who, do you honestly think the general population will support?
As I wrote in another post regarding peoples ridiculous postulations regarding a "popular uprising", there has to be a massive breakdown in the basic fabric of the American way of life before the general population supports any action by one of these so called "militias".
Let's take a look at the hanetees. The were around for a few years and were completely infiltrated by the FBI.
They had an "early warning system" that completely failed.
One of the morons got away and was later picked up.
They had no training. No platoon level experience or organization. Everyone wanted to be a leader and none wanted to follow. They had various types of weapons (standardized weaponing systems is the mainstay of any good army). They were all out of shape. (the shape one needs to be in to fight in combat is vastly different than a bunch of fools running around in the woods on the weekend playing army man).
If there was such a ground swell of anger in this nation, then why did the other local militia denounce the moron hanetees and then profess their love for the US?
These are nothing more than moronic people pissed off that they aren't getting their way. Rather than using clear reasonable thought to protest their ideas, they choose the shortest route via well planned tantrums to get their way.
Hell, one of the dopes confessed to being part of the hanetees because she thought Obama granted citizenship to a huge group of Hamas. They read some half-witted misspelled mass chain email and they fall for it hook line and sinker. If this is he best that these so called militias can do, we have nothing to worry about.
In the end, comparing the US army using force against a domestic terroristic militia and sending our troops to invade a nation half a world under the guise of saving them, is, as they say, apples and oranges.

I agree. So far, I'm betting on the insurgents, by the way.
So suppose that an illegal militia, which wouldn't have the support of the general population, starts something, who, do you honestly think the general population will support?
Any rebellion without popular support will fail, of course.
As I wrote in another post regarding peoples ridiculous postulations regarding a "popular uprising", there has to be a massive breakdown in the basic fabric of the American way of life before the general population supports any action by one of these so called "militias".
I agree. However, I don't discount the possibility of such a massive breakdown in the basic fabric of the American way of life. In fact, I anticipate it within my lifetime. I fully expect within my lifetime that the United States is going to be hit with a nuclear or biological weapon in a major city, and the results are going to be absolutely catastrophic, resulting in the American way of life disappearing literally overnight. The first nuke goes off in, say, Atlanta, and every major city in America is going to vacate. Supplies will cease flowing, and food and fuel will dry up within hours. Martial law will be declared. Looting and lawlessness will be unchecked.
Let's take a look at the hanetees. The were around for a few years and were completely infiltrated by the FBI.

How much training do you think your average Afghan or Iraqi insurgent has? Just because America is in a position where fat white guys can just pretend to play army man doesn't mean that the need for real citizens being real army men won't come to pass. And should it come to pass, I'll take the poorly trained fat white guys over nothing.
If there was such a ground swell of anger in this nation, then why did the other local militia denounce the moron hanetees and then profess their love for the US?
Because there isn't such a ground swell of anger in this nation?
These are nothing more than moronic people pissed off that they aren't getting their way. Rather than using clear reasonable thought to protest their ideas, they choose the shortest route via well planned tantrums to get their way.

self deluded arm chair warriors. I see the pix of them in public with their guns, and in practically all of them, I see easy ways to take their guns away from them- guns carried in quick draw hip holsters, rifles slung over the back with a nylon strap, not paying attention at all to who is around them. The majority of them, all it would take would be two people, no hitting or violence involved, just one for distraction and the other to grab the gun. The majority of the gun nuts think that merely carrying a gun will protect them from assault. No, dude, you're just inviting it, when a thug sizes you up and sees you as an easy target. If it wasn't for the danger of it, I would love to see a few lefties sneak up on one of the gun nuts and take their gun away from them, slap a peace sticker on their foreheads, dis- assemble the gun and hand it back to them in pieces, just to prove the point.
Oh yeah, I wonder when it will dawn on these idiots that a lefty will shoot back.
|
|
I don't picture any of that silly business going anywhere. I think it will stay at huffing and having outraged demonstrations. No sense in being super-aggressive either. Let 'em act like idiots and blather on about watering the tree of liberty, as if we are anywhere near having a government that requires a violent conflict.
They are only losing support among the population, and our president is doing a superb job. None of the hysterical predictions have come true, he has been eminently reasonable on topics that were actually a serious concern, like gun control, and has really done little or nothing I can think of to lose support.
Fuck 'em. Don't talk like 'em.
I'm guessing you are at least sixty? You wouldn't be running any patrols buddy.

I'm an Army National Guardsman, and do photography and journalism for them.
It's a great gig, I hope to go active soon so I can do it fulltime, I thrive on doing this all day long. I was considering it before, but Annual Training last year cemented it.
I'm going to finish my divorce and find a slot for a 46 Quebec.
Hopefully in Deutschland, it's a sweet place, and very strategically located for the occasional day off.

it was great, except that I was supposed to be snagging some photos while we were out, and it rained ungodly amounts that day.
I ended up taking shelter (and brew) in Hofbrauhaus for the remainder of the day, it was incredible.
We were at Hohenfels, with a day spent at Grafenwoehr for a Combat Lifesaver Class, we didn't take the class, but I got to take shots of it.
Every time they have needle sticks it makes for superb photos.

|
On the 105mm and the 152mm rifled tank cannon these are used in the zeroing process. I assume the new tankers do the same thing on the 120mm smoothbore. This is to do the initial movement of all the cannon sights to the target. Next comes a series of shots to further adjust the sights. IF this is done correctly you should NEVER miss target. Alpha Co 3/3/33/ Armor 3rd AD. I, my crew, shot high tank on Range 42 @ Graf in 1976. We were one of a few units with the brand new M60A2, utilizing the 152mm Shillelagh gun system ( think Sheridan). Not anything as cool as an Abrams but a hell of a MBT. Was stabilized, so shoot on the move, laser range finder, and TC operated target designate. The Russians new we had them up around Bad Hersfeld in the Fulda Gap. Steel on steel at 4400! Reagan didn't end the Cold War WE DID! Former 11EW1 , son of a tanker too. Would love one more day on the range in my life. Hope the baggers aren't down range.

It seems so obvious now that you have revealed its purpose. Lucky you, I wish I could have fired a cannon like that just once. I do believe even in those days you would have had some sophisticated projectiles.

| 138. You're thinking of boresighting. |
|
That is done with a special scope inserted into the muzzle of the gun. It looks like a telescope, and doesn't look anything like those crosshairs in the muzzle of the gun in the pic. Anyway, during boresighting, you've always got one crewman on the ground looking through the scope and guiding the gunner onto the target manually so that the gunner can toggle the reticle into the line of fire of the gun tube.
We had boresighting scopes for the 105mm and the 120mm gun, and neither of them looked anything like those crosshairs in the pic...

One of the preparatory steps to calibration of the fire control system is to boresight the main gun and the sights. Normally this is done with an optical device that mounts in the muzzle but can be accomplished by putting threads across the witness marks stamped in the muzzle and using the firing pin hole on the breechblock as the rear sight to align the main gun on the boresight panel. I was a tanker when the MOS was 11E and retired a 19Z5M after 26 years. and more trips to Graf than I can remember. I did 2 tours in Viet-Nam and was recalled to active duty in 1991 to play in the sandbox. I am not sure if there were another 'rebellion' it wouldn't tear the Army apart. Remember, the President offered command of all Federal forces to a General, who famously turned him down. Today, we are using his front lawn for a graveyard. There are those on active duty who would as vehemently resist orders to fire on their fellow citizens are there are those who would follow those orders.

Elections have results and those that nearly destroyed our democracy (the Bushies) were voted out by a landslide majority, so why do you think a minority should be able to impose its will on the majority simply because you didn't get your way. Put the fucking guns down. It will only cause the destruction of our loved ones. We are all in this together and should plan our best progress together with policies that have merit not fear.
Remember, it was hate radio that instigated and started the Riwanda genocide and mass murder. Your tiny gun will only get people killed and if you carry a gun then you'll have a tendency to use it before considering other alternatives.
Palin won't share a stage with any one who is informed enough to rebut her propaganda. Backman cannot debate anyone knowledgeable hiding behind twisted versions of "God's will". She needs a straight jacket with her insanity, and yet you would point guns at her detractors. Don't let your macho egos get out of hand for you are outnumbered ten to one. What the hell do you think would happen by attacking the federal government???...our government...the people's government.
This is not Mayberry anymore...government must expand merely to keep up with population and population must learn how to become in balance with "finite resources". Small weapons murdering will only bring out gangs interested only in their own survival. Learn from Iraq...but first find out its truth.

The militant teabragger's stupidity puts every sportsman in the country who owns a firearm in a bad light. When I take my guns out of the house it's either to go hunting or to go to the rifle/pistol range.
I thought my vote was the weapon that took care of politics for me. That idea was kind of dampened when the SCOTUS swiped our votes in Bush vs Gore. Dampened but not wiped out.
It asks you if you are sane when you fill out your papers as you purchase a gun...but we have seen how the republicans in Washington lie about everything else, so I'm guessing they'd lie about their mental stability too, even under oath.

| 58. Star Trek said it best ... |
|
Anybody remember that twenty year old episode where Data lands on a planet of good, hard-working people threatened by a race of aliens? Should the good people evacuate or should they stay and fight? They decide to stay and fight the aliens when they finally arrive. Data urges them to leave. Data comes close to becoming frustrated -- probably a little like Barack Obama is these days.
Finally in the climactic scene, Data uses a single blast from a phaser to blow up their water recycling plant. Then he turns to the crowd of people still ready to fight, and explains that the aliens will orbit their planet far out of range, fire on them, and they will all die not even seeing their faces. That they have no chance.
That's the way the NRA and the teabaggers strike me. They don't understand the problem. Algebra and chemistry are far more effective weapons against sophisticated technically-flush adversary than a whole garage full of nonsensically-named sawed-off large-caliber rifles loaded with soggy self-packed ammunition. They haven't a chance.
But that's not the point. These people don't care about logic. They don't care about reality. They only want to brandish their silly guns, to hate people they don't know, and they only want their way. Sooner or later, they will all get themselves arrested or killed.

Riddle me this, then, Batman: Why is it that it has taken us longer and more money to overcome the fighters in the Middle East than it did for us to overcome two modern nations in WWII, when the folks in the Middle East can't field a single tank, aircraft, or ship?

In WWII, there was no press to instantly report and show the atrocities of war.
But today, any major attack is instantly broadcast around the world in 15 minutes on CNN. Consequently there is no political will to use such brute force anymore. This makes asymmetrical warfare even more possible, as we have seen world-wide since Vietnam. It is even MORE possible for rebellions at home where annihilation of one's own infrastructure is not desirable.

There are only two ways to win a conflict through military means:
1) Destroy the enemy's ability to fight. 2) Destroy the enemy's will to fight.
Aside from the moral abhorrence of killing innocent civilians, right or wrong doesn't matter. The United States will not use military force to achieve either of the two above conditions, because of the political fallout. Al Queda knows this. This is why we will never win over there. Trying to fight this war as a police action simply inflames the opposition, and rallies more supporters to their cause. Consequently it is a war of attrition, that we will eventually lose.
At present all we are doing is stoking the enemy's will to fight.

If they actually attempted to overthrow this nation by force, they would imagine themselves victorious, and find themselves unmanned and humiliated.

our military to put down any armed insurrection that would be based on lies and misinformation by the president's political opposition.
These outrageous lies are what has inspired this unreasonable hatred of the President, that and his ethnicity.
Tea Party "patriots" are even fired up and angry about what they claim Obama is 'going' to do, like take away their guns, despite every bit of evidence to the contrary.
I'm sorry but this is how unreasonable we thinking people see the Tea Bags.
The claims that President Obama is a sort of stealth Muslim, America hating, socialist, non-citizen, fascist or communist are simply complete fabrications. The president has taken no action at all to reinforce these incredibly stupid allegations. Take health care reform for example. It is hardly a 'government takeover' as characterized by Republicans and Tea Bags. The private insurance industry remains completely intact.
Most of us on the DU are very disappointed that the HCR bill does not go far enough toward a European type medical delivery system. We voted for Obama thinking we would get a strong public option. That is called 'representative government'. We elected Obama. He did not take power by force. We can be disappointed in Obama but this disappointment should hardy inspire armed insurrection against the government.
The actual problem these "patriots" have with President Obama has more to do with his political party, his middle name and the color of his skin than any tangible action or agenda on his part.

actually a bill in the works to take away hand guns and semi automatic weapons, one of their big fears. The sponsors?? John Sydney Maverick McCain and Jumpin' Joe Lieberman. One would need the capacity to do research to find that out and these people aren't long on that! When you're knowledge is spoon fed to you 24/7 by people who are part of the problem, thinking becomes unnecessary.

but the crazy ones do a lot of damage unfortunately and really have lost their sense of reason - they are stupid enough & bratty enough to drag the entire bedroom into the bath with them while kicking and screaming on the way to the tub. They do not want to take a bath and they will let everyone know it. I just hope they can intercept the ones that do the stupidest things because they won't win, but they can cause lots of heartless damage

We need a boot camp for the teabraggers...where they get to know a number 12 boot in the ass as their new mommyfigure.

I think it's about giving the Teabaggers a heads up. They act as if they own the slogan "We the People". They forget that WE are ALL the People. The majority of the People of this country disagree with their beliefs. We too are armed and we will stand against THEIR tyranny. I had to laugh when the news reports came out about the arrests of the Militia in Michigan and Ohio. There is a Youtube video of one of their buddies listening to the police band and loading his guns. The first thing that came to my mind was WTF your guns aren't loaded? These "Militia" idiots were arrested with NOT A SHOT FIRED! These guys ran around in the woods with guns "training" for their "mission". They couldn't even start to resist the FBI and the ATF who have "rules of engagement" "We the People" on the other hand have no such limitations on our actions. I live 5 miles south of the Michigan border. If they start running around my neck of the woods they will be the ones wishing the government was protecting them. So I will chime in with my warning to the Teabaggers that hold up posters that say "We came unarmed this time". Dykes have guns too buddy and we don't have beer bellies to drag around. What should scare you more is that I'm a crack shot with a bow too. So if you come running around in my neck of the woods, you better look very closely up in every tree. Silent death may be waiting.

Most of those fuckers couldn't even earn a 'bolo' badge...Chicken hawks, just like their former CIC.. I live in a Red-as-hell state for years...Christ, they're still flying the Southern battle flag downtown...and yeah, it's all in the name of "historical preservation". Fuck 'em...like you said bro' it's been a good long while since I wore the OD's...but I'd do it again in a minute to whip up on some of these armed, loud mouthed, cammo wearing dipshits who think they know how to rock and roll... Yeah, I'm pissed. I have 5 sons who are prey for these fuck-tards. I swore that after my run-in in SE Asia, I'd never own another gun, and live peacefully ...well, the times they are a'changin'.

|
If you seriously believe that you are capable of going up against the United States government, I would urge you to put your affairs in order, because you will be swiftly and efficiently fragged, tagged, and bagged.
The Vietnamese seemed to have made a pretty good go of it against the United States. The Afghans seem to have made a pretty good go of it against the USSR. The Mogadishus seem to have made a pretty good go of it against the United States. The Iraqis and Afghans seem to be having a pretty good go of it against the United States.
And none of these fights actually directly affected the tax base of the technologically superior nation at war like an at-home rebellion would.
Besides, no matter what the odds, what is the alternative? To submit peacefully in the face of oppression without even an attempt to resist?
The C-in-C is an African-American.
My stance on this issue has nothing to do with the color of the president's skin. I voted for Obama. This has nothing to do with the Constitution, the second amendment, nor the reasoning of the founders when they wrote them.

You seem to think that the only way to shut down "an at-home rebellion" is the military. You forget that there are citizens in this country that will put down that rebellion. These people are domestic terrorists. The true "militia" in this nation are those of us who will stand against these terrorists. Wolverines!

I think the Hanetee (sic) militia is a perfect example.
These supposed home town GI Joes, trained for many a weekend by playing army man in the local woods. They even were supposed to have an "early warning system". LOL
That failed miserably.
that group of morons, like most of the ball lickers, are high on the image, machismo and ego and very low on the brains, exercise, and actual training.
They love to talk a great game, but when it comes down to reality, they crumble like the worthless morons they are.
The bottom line is: They would rather solve their problems with bullets then with brains. all you need is finger and a gun. Most people have 10 fingers, but all of us only have one brain. Sadly, the ball lickers enjoy using their fingers more than they enjoy using their brain.

foreign and DOMESTIC. A group of racist, shitheads threatening armed insurrection against the duly elected Command Authority qualifies, at least in my mind. And yeah, I WOULD try to re-up in order to protect my Commander-in-Chief, although as you so sweetly put it, I'm way too old. Nowhere did I say I would enjoy it, I said I'd do it. That was pretty much the mantra of the combat infantryman: "You don't have to like it, just fucking do it!" (And although I still I still carry enough frag to set off an airport metal detector, I don't limp. How was your war, hero?) Now, go back to laughing till you think you'll die.

You're right, you didn't say you'd enjoy it, but you said you'd re-up for a chance to put one in the ten ring of a few... Let's hope you never get the chance, hotshot.
You almost make me sorry I served during peacetime. Almost. How was my war? Damn, I wasn't lucky enough to have one. That doesn't make me any less of a veteran than you. You go on with your bad self though. Maybe you'll be fraggin', taggin', and baggin' and putting a few rounds in the ten rings of American citizens before you know it. Those boogeymen you're afraid of just might come to your neighborhood and say the wrong thing. It could happen... Then you could re-up to protect the Commander-in-Chief. Boy, you'd be shittin' in tall cotton then, wouldn't ya?

the final "g". The "wouldn't ya" was pretty folksy, too. You're not really worth the time, but I'll try once more. Barack Obama is my President. Individuals threatening armed insurrection against the legitimate government of the United States should be ... what? Reasoned with? Asked nicely to not revolt? Are you even aware that that's what is being proposed? Try to put aside your own sweaty fantasies vis-a-vis a situation you know nothing about long enough to realize that no one who has ever seen combat wishes to do so again ... hotshot. But if you believe it's not called for in the case I outlined and one that the miltia/teabaggers champion, then maybe we swore a different oath. Now, take your boogeymen and your tall cotton and stick them wherever you think they'll do the most good.

|
Edited on Tue Apr-20-10 10:21 PM by cherokeeprogressive
Are you saying that there have been OVERT threats that armed insurrection will be used against the United States government? Really? Since you made the claim, could you point me to a single instance of such a threat? And don't tell me to read anything into the words they use. I'm talking about a real language threat. Individuals threatening armed insurrection against the legitimate government of the United States should be... arrested or at the very least questioned. That's what they should be. Until the first shot is fired, it's merely a law enforcement issue.
I'm actually surprised that a combat hardened individual such as yourself would get in such a tiff over a bunch of rag-tag, candy-ass drunks, prancing through the woods in their camo, who could be squashed by a single platoon. I don't know... maybe you figured some tough talk from a combat hardened soldier was what was needed in this instance and would set the whole situation to right. You sure are putting a lot of stock in something I find to be more of a nuisance than anything else though.
In spite of all your bluster, the situation is thus: Until a shot is fired, they are nothing more than American citizens with a different opinion than ours. Until a shot is fired, no fragging, tagging, or bagging is warranted. No treason or sedition has occurred. No one has broken any law that hasn't been held accountable for breaking said law. None of you Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, or Marines who haven't put on a uniform in nearly four decades need to worry about re-upping in an effort to save the Republic from a bunch of rag-tag, candy-assed drunks who prance through the woods in their camo, and could be squashed by a single platoon. In fact, there isn't even reason to go to the range and practice putting rounds in the ten ring because these fools pose no real danger other than shooting themselves in the foot or accidentally hitting an innocent person with a stray bullet due to their relative inexperience with firearms compared to the likes of you. And THAT, my friend, is nothing more than a law enforcement issue. I recited the same fucking oath you did, and in the case you outlined, I don't believe fragging, bagging, tagging, and putting rounds into the ten rings of American citizens is warranted.
The boogeymen will not hurt you. Barack Obama is every Americans president. My sweaty fantasies do not involve things like combat, fragging, bagging and tagging, or rounds in ten rings. Those statements are all true. Accept them.

While the stated futility and stupidity of any American citizen (or anyone else, for that matter) considering themselves capable of militarily going up against the United States government is a given, it is essential that we all keep in mind the wise words of Thomas Jefferson: "When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty." Perhaps those who have gone off course and feel otherwise are in need of an attitude adjustment.

Most civil wars nowadays aren't head on battles. They are asymmetrical warfare. They are assassinations and snipers and bombs that take out day cares because they are too close to government buildings.
In short, it's terrorism.
These guys probably still won't won but there will be a lot of collateral damage (i.E. Dead People) as a result none the less.
BTW, I hate to say but I doubt your words will mean much to the people you are talking too. They think the military will side with them.

I don't support tea baggers or militia movements but the idea of sponsoring a gathering of U.S. citizens and then killing them with air strikes and artillery smells of Hitler's Germany. Would the members of the military who perform the attacks also wear an emblem with two white oblique Sig Runes on black like the SS? I sincerely hope you were joking. Your statement might be read by a lurker and used as an example of how progressive Democrats feel about militia members or other people who disagree with our party. I may not agree with a persons views and in some cases I might wish that the government carefully watches the individual and the organizations he belongs to. If the person or his organizations are planning attacks against our government, they deserve arrest and trial and possibly imprisonment depending on the results of the trial.

They don't understand that even if they want to overthrow the government or challenge it with state-run militias, they can't. Don't they remember what happened to all those Iraqi soldiers who fought? Those guys at least had tanks, machine guns, and some combat training and none of that made any difference at all for them. How do they think they'll fare better?

Military Political Affiliation Shifts: Fewer U.S. Troops Identify As Republicans A new Military Times survey finds that fewer American troops identify as Republicans.
According to the survey of 1,800 troops released on Monday, the number of active service members self-identifying as Republican has fallen by one-third since 2004, with 9 percent of that drop-off occurring in the last year.
Military Times reporter Brendan McGarry writes: "These career-oriented officers and mid-grade and senior enlisted members are still far more conservative than liberal, but they are less likely today to identify with the GOP, the survey shows." |
...is not a stand up battle, it's hit and run. By the time the troops arrive, guerrillas are long gone.
For all our military power, we can't secure a third world country, something like the continental United States would be very difficult to control.
If history is any example, say from Vietnam, while the troops are out securing one hot spot, other guerrillas are going after the troops families back in their hometowns.
We'd be hard pressed to keep an interstate highway open across the country. 3000 miles of highway would absorb a lot of resources, if it were contested.
Generally, a civil war would suck and it's something that should be avoided.
