What the hell happened to Ed Shultz?
He used to be a rabidly pro-labor, mostly progressive voice.

He still goes after the teaklansmen and rapublicans, but other than that his radio show just sounds like he's reading White House press releases all the time.

1. For the last few weeks he has been going after the coal criminals and supporting unions 24/7.
He's probably just taking a breath today.

11. If I disagree with some or all of the message...
Then yeah, I definitely have a problem with that. I'm not a member of some sort of pathetic cult of personality like republican bushbots were.

And also unlike republicans I'm motivated by a consistent set of values and base my support what I perceive to be right and wrong, not simply "If the other side has a problem with this then I will agree with it more just to piss them off!!!!".

13. knock yourself out. But "our" media (what there is of it) needs to be supportive of Obama
not critical. At least most of the time. As long as we remain truthful, what's the problem? Go ahead and dissent, that's your obligation. But let us have one media person who can deliver a progressive message, please?

16. That's the job of the WH press office.....
..and Gibbs, etc. They are the "media" that should be trumpeting the Obama party line.

I want journalists (to the degree that any exist) to be truthful and honest.

If someone is a pundit or an opinion type person (a la Maddow, maybe Olberman, and maybe Schultz) then they should offer their opinion even if that differs from the Obama party line.

I don't want a liberal version of Fox news and I don't want liberal versions of Hannity or Beck or whoever.

The problem is that this belief that "new media" should do all the work is what made the politicians themselves lazy. They don't feel they need to get out there and roll in the mud and talk things up or defend themselves or play PR. They expect the talking heads on cable news or on blogs to do all the work.

19. President Teddy Roosevelt "had a problem" with that:
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -- Theodore Roosevelt

28. That quote was only acceptable when Bush was still president
and we were mocking Bushbots.

Now that "our side" is in charge it should be put away until a Republican is in office.

But five times a day he goes off on how above reproach "this President" is, and ascribing altruistic and egalitarian motives to him that just don't match his record. It sounds like he's reading the script for the big pep rally on the East Lawn. Never mind he ignores 100% Obama's broken promise to revisit NAFTA, the worst assault on working people since feudalism.

18. If it's a question of "sides"
I'd like to see someone backing up the side of the working and middle classes. Thom Hartmann does a good job of that but ever since the insurance bailout passed too many of the progressive talkers are falling into chanting "Obama right or wrong".

Get someone to clean it, would you.

I'm not talking about Obama bashing. I'm talking about Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and the preemption of progressivism by the corporate DC Democratic machine.

How did it happen?

Okay, now we're even on the absurd ad hominem.

Obama has done a few things well. Being pro-labor is nowhere on his list.

Shultz still recognizes how sick the teaklan movement is, and rightfully attacks rapublicans often, but he seems to have traded in his progressive megaphone for a pair of pom poms. Shultz doing the splits in one of those short pleated skirts is not a pretty sight.

38. which is why I wonder why he doesn't talk about Obama
reneging on revisiting NAFTA, or why he never mentions Obama anymore without sounding like a teenaged groupie, or why he defends Obama's role in the bailouts without mentioning that Obama played nerf badminton with Wall Street, but went all UFC on the auto manufacturers over their labor costs, all but personally calling on unions to make whatever concessions would be necessary to balance the car makers' books.

Obama hates unions. Every decision proves it.
