Fake Emergency Broadcast label being used in some fashion to try and help Republicans.
Edited on Fri Apr-09-10 01:28 PM by RandomThoughts
First off, in my area the EBS channel is channel 24, I know that because they have one of those test things every week.

And I am trying to watch the story of Masada and some early history on Early Rome battle in that era on the History International Channel 276.

And every 2 or 3 minutes, even during commercials, the History International channel has a fake like Emergency Broadcast Message.

It does not have a sound, it does not have the same format, it just says Emergency Alert System Channel, white letters on a blank black screen.

So I turn to channel 24 out of curiosity, and they are covering the SRLC Southern Republican 'Leaderless' Council with Republican speakers.

I don't know if it is only my area(possible), or even only my TV(would be funny), But that is the BS that is wrong and is part of the corporate propaganda machine.

1. Sounds like something that should be reported to the FCC.
Seriously.

Not sure if it is done locally, I would guess it is, since it is over comercials also. But seriously saw it 10 to 20 times, haven't seen it again in a few minutes. Each time the black screen with white letters apeared it was up for a few seconds. And it went on every couple minutes interupting the show.

But it was there, and I checked channel 24 a few times and saw SRLC logo behind speaker and in text on header on bottom of CSpan 24 so thats why I figure it is to help RNC

4. You weren't recording the show by any chance, were you?
That'd be wonderful.

6. No and it has stopped now.
Probably should have recorded it. Someone somewhere should have seen it and recorded it, unless it is really really local, like one of the 'special' programs.

7. How do you get your TV signals?
Cable? Dish? Over the air?

10. Hmm...well, that would have had to come from Comcast, then.
No station would interrupt its own programming like that. I'd call Comcast and describe the situation and see if they have any information on the interruption. It would be very easy for someone at Comcast to do such a thing. Could be a nasty prank by someone who's leaving his/her employment, or a political trick.

I'd make the call.

11. I am pretty sure all local areas have cut in ability.
I have heard real EBS messages in local crime broadcast over the last year.

So not sure if they call it into comcast, or if they have break in capability elsewhere, but local, county, and state, have a way to break in.

However it was different format, so not sure of scope or who put it up.

But it would be an assumption to blame Comcast. But no way to know.

All I know is it was on my TV. Anything else would be an assumption.

13. I don't have a star at the present time, so I get ads. Right up front and at the top is this:
Emergency Alert System. The Most Trusted Response Service since 1976. One Month Free. LifeFone.com

I liked my life better before Google started tracking me. It's the ultimate in commercialism. On second thought, maybe some of the spammers are worse. Or the trojan planters.

15. Could you explain that post?
Are you saying you are getting a google add that says Emergency Alert System? it could be triggering off of key word in one of the posts.

As far as tracking, shrug, doesn't really matter, many groups track.

what is a trojan planter?
